just slides and some web tour coming
11:33 - Kristina Speakes
OK
11:33 - shukufa
of course if you want you can add audio too
11:43 - Nicki Zulu
It is great but only if you have the bandwidth, would love ideas on web2.0 with limited bandwidth
as in my school in zambia we get 1mb only and it is really restrictive in what we can achieve in
the classroom - any suggestions would be super
12:06 - Peggy George
that is really limiting @Nicki! what a challenge!
12:17 - Melody (@soingirl)
Shawn has been such an inspiration for us, and helped us get started with making our own
movies.
12:18 - Cathy #2
Thanks it is working now
12:25 - Peggy George
Shawn will be sharing various tools for moviemaking today
12:36 - louisemorgan

15:57 - @plnaugle(Paula Naugle)
Hi Sheri. :)
15:58 - Peggy George
that's so funny @louisemorgan! my teachers always wanted to hide in the shadows at our Open
House nights. Much happier in their classrooms
16:33 - louisemorgan
Not me! they gotta pull me off the stage with a cane! LOL!
16:34 - Peggy George
http://studentmathmovies.wikispaces.com
16:35 - stidmama
@shufuka, I like the idea of videotaping student presentations, so students can see how they

19:57 - Peggy George
thanks for sharing that link Paula!!!
20:36 - shukufa
and by this way they feel free to do things they told to be done
20:38 - Peggy George
having a broad, authentic audience is so powerful for students and makes them really want to do
a great job!
20:50 - Kristina Speakes
What do we do when school rules won't allow for student images to be used? How can I create
an authentic audience?
21:02 - Kelly
authentic audience huge!!
21:03 - Peggy George

33:43 - @Len_Horn #2
I bet they love the challenge.
33:46 - SusanSi
did the students do the editing?
33:47 - stidmama
One of the things I really love about tech is that it allows students to express sophisticated ideas
without still-developing motor skills (handwriting or organization) hiding their understanding.

StoryBoarding ....
40:05 - Peggy George
I'm sure you have some resources for Storyboarding @shamblesguru!!! Let's see them :-)
40:34 - clinds
It's interesting - a math teacher at my school is having her 8th graders create Show Me videos on
iPads explaining how to solve problems and many of the students say they don't like watching
peer videos (they say it confuses them and want to learn from the teacher). Maybe it just takes
some getting used to, as this is new to them...

I have to head out soon for another event, but I have really enjoyed this and will finish watching
when the archive link is loaded! Thanks so much for this session. It has been very thoughtprovoking,
and so nice to have another tool to help kids get into their math.

47:33 - Kelly
That was awesome-loved her accent :)
47:44 - Peggy George

anyone say no yet!
52:11 - Peggy George
you can watch it all the way through in the Livebinder later
52:17 - Shawn Avery
No teleprompters. Nothing to read off of. We rehearse once so students can get an idea of what
they'd like to say.
52:26 - Shawn Avery
Of course we often have to do plenty of takes!

Shawn - what a great educator you are - a real example - so capable - and so willing to share
the wealth of your experience. It is educators like you and those in the audience who should be
receiving good press - too bad the press jumps in for teacher bashing instead of teacher
celebrating.
1:09:29 - @plnaugle(Paula Naugle)

@Kristina - Lots of spaces you can use to upload video (Kidblog, Wikispaces, Voicethread,

small.
1:16:52 - Kelly
Melody, I was thinking the same thing! ;)

branch out to more sophisicated techniques like greenscreening.

1:20:50 - lupitadegonzalez@gmail.com
Thnks @Paula :)
1:21:00 - Peggy George
you can shoot very short video clips and then combine them in the editing process. Actually
makes it much easier to edit.
1:21:34 - Tammy Moore
If you have a special effect that you need that only the professional level Adobe products could
achieve, Adobe now hads the Creative Cloud. Once you prove you are an educator, you can pay
$30 and get a month's access to all their pro tools (After Effects, Audition, video porduction
tools,e tc). If you need more access, you can just leep paying the monthly access, but you can
cancel it any time.
1:21:52 - Peggy George
wow Tammy! Didn't know that! Thanks!!

1:22:50 - Shawn Avery
I haven't Len. Sorry.
1:23:29 - Peggy George
Vimeo has made some really nice upgrades to their site and the videos view really well full

1:24:32 - @shamblesguru

1:24:36 - Peggy George
bandwidth is probably only an issue when you're uploading content and then when you're
playing them back for the class. But you can download them too so you don't need to be on the
internet
1:24:38 - Oronoque
Perhaps burn to CD and DVD, and place in school liobrary.
1:24:48 - Peggy George
yes @Oronoque

Oooh DVD for school library. LOVE!
1:25:07 - Oronoque

1:25:24 - @shamblesguru
Thumb Drives
1:25:41 - Peggy George
yes! thumb drives are another great suggestion!
1:26:01 - Peggy George
do you use a rubric to help the students evaluate their videos?
1:26:11 - Peggy George
:-)
1:26:27 - Peggy George
rubrics just help them to remember what's important to include--doesn't have to be an evaluation
tool
1:26:41 - Tammy Moore
@Peggy - It is still a brand new option and so I am still figuring it out as well. Go to http:

www.adobe.com/products/creativecloud.html to leanr more. Teacher's get an educational
discount bringing the regular fee down to $30 per month.
1:27:02 - Peggy George
educational discounts make a big difference! thanks!
1:27:19 - Peggy George
perfect audio Richard!!! thank you
1:27:26 - clinds
When you upload to Vimeo, can't you make the video unlisted so it is fairly private and you pretty
much need the URL to find it?
1:27:38 - Peggy George
yes you can @clinds
1:27:57 - clinds
@Peggy - Thanks :)
1:28:04 - Peggy George

1:29:37 - Kelly
Thanks, Shawn! Well done! Heading out, my girls demanding my attention! ;)
1:29:41 - Peggy George
you can password protect Vimeo too
1:29:48 - Richard Walker, M. Ed.
So you are giving feedback on their activity and not a evaluation?
1:30:22 - Kristina Speakes
What roles to you have besides actor?
1:30:24 - Melody (@soingirl)
I make mine unlisted on YouTube, and disable all voting and commenting
1:30:39 - Peggy George
do you have a document that explains the roles? or blog post?
1:31:44 - @shamblesguru
makeup wardrobe director lighting paymaster
1:32:08 - Peggy George
you can also prevent people from downloading your vimeos if you want to
1:32:37 - Peggy George
I think the Flip camera provides some excellent quality videos (both video and audio)!
1:33:00 - Peggy George
Mine even lets me record in HD if I choose--just uses more memory
1:33:13 - Richard Walker, M. Ed.
Get a shotgun mic or wired lav mic. if you have to get away from the subject.
1:33:42 - Peggy George
the videos don't have to be "perfect"--better to let them represent the student voices as they
are :-)
1:34:28 - Peggy George
Time to let Shawn go (and all of you!)
1:34:31 - Melody (@soingirl)
Have a great weekend everyone :)
