05:47 - Oronoque

06:02 - Susie @shighley
I'd be curious to know how many people are here for their very first Classroom 20 live session

06:09 - Erlinda Goldsberry
Better this morning but it has been really bad-maybe for 2-3- months

06:18 - stidmama
none of the schools I substitute in allow cell phones during school hours

06:59 - stidmama
Sorry to hear that Erlinda, I hope you get plain old rain soon! We had just a sprinkling here in the Salish Sea region this weekend (Puget Sound)

07:12 - Lisa Mims
But only for the classes piloting BYOD

07:17 - nikki 1
you are on follow me to lift the red is ok now

08:17 - stidmama
LOL the joys of "technology" right? I love seeing how you keep "with it" to make things work through the issues

08:17 - Dotty
Students in hs can use cell phone during passing period and lunch, but not during class. Most of the classrooms are cell phone dead zones.

08:41 - nikki 1
hit Follow Me...fasr right

08:43 - Oronoque
can't see tthe slide

08:45 - Lisa Mims

10:19 - nikki 1
Hola Stella

10:45 - Stella Maris Berdaxagar

10:59 - Dotty
My concern with cell phones is students who cannot afford one. Some students on,y have basic service.

11:03 - Noble Kelly
she's back

11:30 - Lisa Mims
@Dotty, we have backup devices

11:36 - trish
We are in the process of revamping our acceptable use policy.

16:24 - Tfrentzen
I'm using my iPad and can't see slides...any suggestions.

16:46 - Dotty
Why don't schools just block cell phone signals during the day. Schools usually have phones for emergencies.

17:48 - @shamblesguru

18:27 - Lorna Costantini
this slide is blank

18:33 - Erlinda Goldsberry 1
Tried link and couldn't get back so I signed in again

18:49 - Susie @shighley
But if you allow cell phones, you might free up some $$ to provide devices for those who don't have one.

19:04 - Lisa Mims
We tweeted about our bball trip while there using my cell phone.

19:25 - Oronoque
The cell phone in schools issue has many, many dimensions in NYC. Kids have been attacked and had their phones stolen. At the same time many parents want their kids to have phones for emergencies.

20:00 - Lorna Costantini
if the slides are not working for you use the livebinder link to see Kim's resources

20:03 - Lorna Costantini

20:36 - Oronoque
My cell phone favorite thing is making calls --- I refuse to have a data plan because of the high cost in NYC.

21:21 - Tfrentzen
Slides working:)

21:43 - Dotty
If you have wifi in your school, you can use IPOD touch, sme idea.

22:22 - nikki 1
crazy style or mode...great name (loca moda)

22:27 - @shamblesguru
sent one from outside USA ... said like to take pics and video ... suspect this service only in USA

22:51 - Tfrentzen
Please share text info in chatroom

23:59 - Lorna Costantini

24:59 - Dotty
We need to be teaching our students real, life skills. I do not know of any business model where employees collaborate using cell phones.

25:40 - Erlinda Goldsberry 1
my cell phone is so old and so am I that I couldn't do it fast enough or get the address in -i 'll try later

25:59 - Susie @shighley
Dotty, I don't think it's the cell phone so much as the access they allow you to collaborate. They give you access to different sites and resources. For instance, I use my phone to make lots of posts to my evernote

26:19 - Tfrentzen
Can you give his name again, Wes.

26:31 - Lorna Costantini
Wes Fryer

26:33 - Kim Caise

27:23 - Lorna Costantini
Thanks Susie and Blair

27:30 - Lorna Costantini

27:36 - Tfrentzen
Great resources! Keep me coming:)

27:56 - Susie @shighley
Many of our high school taechers are now using evernote for collaboration among students. They send via evernote and share via googledocs

28:06 - Oronoque
At the university where I teach more than half the students access the internet on smartphones. So, even though I only make phone calls on my cell phone, I need to know the educational potential of their smartphones.

28:16 - @shamblesguru

29:27 - kgradel
Aren't there some limitations on sharing, based on whether you are in premium?

29:45 - kgradel
Thanks, Kim

30:12 - Lorie Moffat
This past school year, I paid to share with my students.

30:20 - Tfrentzen
Love collaborating with colleagues through google docs!

31:21 - Lorna Costantini

32:01 - Lisa Mims

32:16 - Lorna Costantini

32:45 - Tfrentzen
Perfect for chaperones!!!

34:32 - stidmama
@Dotty, the schools where I teach are rural (no cell or internet service at all for many students at home), and generally high-poverty. Which means that many of these ideas don't work well for those communities. However, I find that I can modify many of the ideas for classroom-only use. Jobs where I live (state capital, near several tech companies) tend to have collaboration by computer and cellphone between employees. So it's good at least to teach the kids the basics of this sort of collaboration. My spouse (I.T. professional) uses his cell phone and tablet frequently when away from the office to communicate with the office and do little things. So do the construction workers I know!

35:26 - Lorna Costantini

35:57 - kgradel
This sounds possibly better than Socrative, except that it can be used on computers, too?

36:00 - Lisa Mims
love the QR code aspect!

36:23 - LucianeCurator 1
I wasn't at iste, but using #iste13 hastag I rediscovered more than 100 edtools : 20 social media curation tools and 50 ipad apps to mLearning

36:36 - stidmama
I have done old-fashioned polling... using hands/cards/thumbs up :-)

36:55 - stidmama
But would LOVE to try the online polling systems.

36:56 - Lisa Mims
This is so cool!:)

37:09 - kgradel
Ah, great that it can be accessed via traditional web browser, phone, etc.

37:10 - Tfrentzen
Can you share polling info again?

38:49 - kgradel
Socrative limits to 50, but can export, etc....also free. Built in ticket out the door, etc.

39:14 - Lorna Costantini

39:30 - Lisa Mims
QR code took me straight to the poll!

40:16 - Lorna Costantini

41:05 - Lisa Mims
Have used Remind101 for last 2 years. Excellent resource

41:14 - Lorna Costantini

43:08 - kgradel
Remind101 should have been thrilled :)

43:11 - Lorna Costantini

43:13 - Susie @shighley
I met the remind101 creator at ISTE and at #EVSCREV13 Really enjoyed talking with him

44:08 - kgradel
Would students need their own Animoto account?

44:28 - Tfrentzen
Great idea for Animoto!

44:47 - Lisa Mims
you can renew every 6 months

46:02 - Lorna Costantini

46:09 - kgradel
Yes, Socrative is so helpful. Of course, to run multiple synchronous quizzes, you need multiple accounts. Unless others have a work around?

46:59 - @teachteKBeck (Kristen
I saw a middle school teacher use phones and/or tablets to make stop motion bullying videos, I'll look for the link...

Is building VTs possible only on iOS and computers? (not responding)?

51:45 - @shamblesguru
My preferred Time Lapse App for the iPhone is FREE ...

51:51 - Lorna Costantini

52:06 - Lorna Costantini

52:11 - Susie @shighley
Know we've moved on from Remind1o1, but you can send tweets now too

52:22 - Lorna Costantini

52:27 - kgradel
It is difficult to build VTs when not using the iPad app or a computer...that's the only thing. Also, aren't there limited free minutes for phoning in per student? I totally LOVE it, but...

Lots of online conferences coming up this year ... spoilt for choice

59:23 - stidmama
Lorna -- will there be a link in livebinder to the QR webinar from the past? that was an amazing help to me, and would fit right in with this theme.

1:00:01 - Lorna Costantini
Thanks STDmama I will add it .. gr8 suggestion

1:03:37 - Wesley Fryer
Kim: What do you think of using AR apps like Aurasma instead of AR Codes to get students to visit links?

1:03:45 - Wesley Fryer
QR codes

1:05:10 - Wesley Fryer
the FCC prohibits jamming of cell phone signals in the US

1:05:32 - @shamblesguru
Just a Heads-Up ... Some of the video recording from earlier sessions in the archives are now saying 'not available' ... e.g. see the Evernote one at

1:05:38 - Susie @shighley
My reception went crazy! Archive for !R code session if not already posted.

1:05:52 - Wesley Fryer
there is a special kind of paint that I've heard some schools use in their testing rooms, which blocks all cell signals

1:06:12 - Susie @shighley
I've noticed several archive recordings missing as well

1:06:40 - Lorna Costantini
Yes SUsie

1:07:10 - Lorna Costantini
we no longer have a blip account and we are now moving our videos to you tube which is taking considerable time

1:07:12 - Susie @shighley
I was looking for the basic iPad one. It was great to see-- and then I got my new iPad...

1:07:31 - Susie @shighley
Those videos are worth waiting for. THanks for doing that!

1:07:36 - Tammy Moore #2

1:08:31 - @shamblesguru

1:09:39 - Wesley Fryer
I haven't done much with it either, but learned about it at Podstock and it looks pretty compelling!

1:09:45 - Wesley Fryer
me too!

1:09:55 - claudiaortega
Thanks so much! from Mexico!

1:10:12 - Wesley Fryer
I think sometimes the AR codes can be tricker to scan than QR codes at times

1:10:15 - @shamblesguru
Augmented Reality

1:10:35 - @shamblesguru
I think this is what you mean .... rather than creating QR codes

1:10:39 - Lorie Moffat
Those are all that I had.

1:11:24 - Wesley Fryer
@shamblesguru thanks!

1:11:26 - Susie @shighley
And I just tweeted it out!

1:11:26 - Lisa Mims
Thanks again.

AR codes

1:12:16 - Erik
What an awesome session! Thank you - you have inspired me!

1:12:21 - @shamblesguru

1:12:35 - Susie @shighley
I've heard futurists say the future is in geotagging-- not unlike google glasses bringing up the info about what you see. Aurasma almost seems a step in that direction.

1:13:53 - Wesley Fryer
@shighley I think it can be... markers can be triggered in different ways, and geo-location can be a part of it

1:14:03 - Wesley Fryer
thanks Kim!
