06:32 - @mariacolussa
Hi Stella Maris! another Argentinian!

06:37 - Aunttammie
Well, I was able to get on the classroom 2.0 session last week on my Mac, but now collaborate has thrown another anti-Mac obstacle into the mix. Back to my iPad. Wish y'all could find a platform that would work with macs...oh, we'll, glad they haven't yet ek

06:49 - Peggy George
great term!! cautious approach! I think that applies to lots of districts!

06:52 - Aunttammie
Eliminated iPads!

07:02 - Stella Maris Berdaxagar ( Argentina)
Good afternoon from a very cold Argentina.

07:07 - Peggy George
@Aunttammie so frustrating!!

07:33 - Susie @shighley
One of my library techs had it up all the time

07:33 - Peggy George
I'm using a Mac and haven't had many problems but I'm on it every day, many times a day.

07:33 - @mariacolussa
Work with what you have! I like it!

07:35 - stidmama
Buenos Dias, Stella!

07:48 - Peggy George
I love those animal cams!!! so interesting to watch!

07:48 - Susie @shighley
Is this the one in Iowa?

07:53 - Doug Henry
It was much more interesting than the "rock-cam"!

07:58 - @mariacolussa
Stella are you going to FAAPI?

08:01 - lbott
I remember watching this.

08:06 - Peggy George
I remember watching the eagle cam when baby eagles were being born!

08:17 - Peggy George
hahaha Doug!!!

08:50 - Peggy George
very familiar picture! computer lab

09:08 - Peggy George
teachers are great scroungers!!! :-)

09:45 - Peggy George
if we're willing to use a hodge-podge of equipment we can often find donations

09:54 - Aunttammie
Anyone else losing sound?

10:27 - Doug Henry
Sound is OK here...

10:35 - Peggy George
I remember visiting Jackie Gerstein's classroom and her entire tech equipment was either her own or computers she got as donations--all different. But the kids did amazing things with them.

10:43 - Stella Maris Berdaxagar ( Argentina)
No, I am very busy with webinars, courses and classes. Are you? Where are you from?

10:45 - Peggy George
sound ok for me @Aunttammie

10:51 - stidmama
If anyone lives near their state's "surplus" store, you can get older computers and peripherals for very little money (they usually need cleaning and some upkeep).

10:54 - @mariacolussa
Santa Fe

11:00 - Aunttammie
Ok, must be my bandwidth

11:16 - @mariacolussa
Do you teach through webinars?

11:24 - Peggy George
so many teachers start using technology by just transferring worksheets to the whiteboard.

11:26 - @mariacolussa
Are you on Twitter?

11:27 - stidmama
Such a good reminder for beginners like me, thanks for this slide, Louise.

11:58 - Peggy George
these goals are very helpful :-)

12:11 - Peggy George
thought provokiing!

12:11 - Stella Maris Berdaxagar ( Argentina)
Aha. Are you using Edmodo?

12:24 - Peggy George
do you all know what the Daily 5 is?

12:38 - Stella Maris Berdaxagar ( Argentina)
Not me.

13:17 - stidmama
I went to my first Daily Five and CAFE workshops this summer! Still reading the books, but so excited!

14:16 - @mariacolussa
Oh yes! I host the Skype Community there!

14:31 - stidmama
@Stella it is a way of thinking about teaching students to "do" reading (or any subject) as well as how to read... incremental discussion and practice of behaviors as well as the mechanics of reading.

14:34 - Peggy George (Blogging 101)

14:44 - Peggy George (Using Blogging with the Daily 5)

15:11 - Peggy George

One K-8 school I know has done a "one book" study through ALL grades several times. Such a great way to get the kids talking and reading -- and across grades. I love the idea of taking it global!

So marvelous how much gets interconnected once there are wider audiences for student learning.

23:26 - Peggy George
and ustream is free if you don't mind the ads!

23:35 - RobynThiessen

28:47 - RobynThiessen
Howard B Wigglebottom does a fabulous author visit with students via Skype

28:58 - Peggy George
thanks for that tip @Robyn!!

29:37 - Peggy George

30:08 - RobynThiessen

30:22 - Peggy George
EdCamp model makes so much sense!!! it's so important to have choices in how you want to spend your time learning

30:51 - Peggy George (Hello Little World Skypers)

31:45 - Peggy George (The Global Classroom Project Blog)

32:15 - Peggy George
Louise, what are you planning to do with inquiry-based learning?

32:46 - RobynThiessen
Me too, I think the relationships are my goal as well!

32:49 - Peggy George
great point! so good if you can continue your collaboration beyond a single skype call

33:02 - Peggy George
are any of you doing quadblogging?

33:10 - @mariacolussa
I dream of an Edcamp here in Argentina, Haven´ heard of any so far

33:23 - Marilyn
I think it is more rich if you can work together on multiple projects and get to know each other too.

33:29 - Peggy George
GeniusHour is fantastic to get connected with! We had a great show about that several months ago!!

33:57 - RobynThiessen
@maria we didnt have one here so I am organising it, you can do it!

34:01 - Peggy George
@mariacolussa you should start one!!! Edcamps are really easy to organize and cost almost nothing!! some are even doing them virtually.

34:22 - Peggy George

37:09 - Peggy George (HomeSchool Conference Schedule)

37:22 - RobynThiessen
@gallit_z has a ton of stuff on genius hour and @joykirr has a Genius Hour Livebinder

37:38 - Peggy George
I love hearing Louise's stories about what she does! So helpful!

38:07 - Peggy George
Thanks Robyn! We have an awesome Livebinder from their presentation on Classroom 2.0 LIVE and their Livebinder is embedded in our Livebinder :-)

38:40 - Peggy George
Do you find the kids continue working on their GeniusHour projects when they go home?

39:26 - Peggy George
I'll bet they really enjoy working on them side by side with other students because they get instant feedback from them

39:27 - stidmama
How much prep time does it take you for a skype session with a new classroom? How many do you do in a month, for example?

39:50 - Peggy George
great question @stidmama!!

40:20 - Peggy George
I know that often Anne Mirtschin does her skype calls spontaneously! She uses it as a real teaching tool!!

41:00 - Peggy George
Here's our Livebinder link for today again in case you missed it:

41:35 - Peggy George
I know that Silvia Tolisano (Langwitches) has some excellent resources on her blog about Skype roles and ideas for skyping in the classroom.

42:02 - Louise Morgan

42:31 - Peggy George
that's a great idea for figuring out the time zone differences

42:41 - Peggy George
and planning around them

42:43 - stidmama
Thanks. :-)

43:20 - Peggy George

43:20 - stidmama
What did you do to get permission from parents to skype with their kids? I suspect your district is very pro-technology!

44:34 - Peggy George
someone in one of the conference presentations talked about the peak time for using skype and he was referring to that special time when US students are in school during the day and Australian students are also in school the next day. Tricky! :-)

45:21 - RobynThiessen
we love skyping into the future~

45:28 - Peggy George
anyone brave enough to take the mic??? :-)

45:37 - Peggy George
what is skyping into the future????

45:42 - Peggy George
take the mic Robyn!!!

45:43 - wfryer
I love your use of blogging to have students reflect on their genius hour learning!

45:46 - Louise Morgan
Hi robynn - tell them more about genius hour

45:58 - RobynThiessen
when you do australia and it'is the next day!!!

46:18 - RobynThiessen
Hi Louise!

46:33 - Peggy George
Wes can you take the mic from your mobile device? I'm sure you could share some of your Skype experiences!

46:37 - Susie @shighley
I wondered about her edCamp experience. I've been to some where people offered sessons, and some where people posted what they wanted to know. Did they have a good match between what people wanted, and people willing to facilitate?

46:57 - Peggy George
oh I get it Robyn!!!! :-) great name for it!!!

47:12 - RobynThiessen

47:48 - RobynThiessen
the true edcamp experience is about conversations and not presentations

48:11 - RobynThiessen
more about the room sharing and learning from each other

48:20 - Peggy George
the neat thing in Edcamp sessions is that the conversation can go wherever the participants want it to go--not a formal presentation and anyone can share

49:03 - Peggy George
perfect example Louise!!!

49:42 - RobynThiessen
Love AR!!!!

49:49 - Peggy George
that's the key! come prepared to share and if the opportunity comes up you'll be ready :-)

50:09 - Peggy George
yes Robyn!!!!!

50:11 - RobynThiessen
@Peggy love it!

50:14 - RobynThiessen
I'll try

50:52 - Peggy George
what fun Wes!!!

51:26 - Marilyn
yeah Robyn!

51:29 - Louise Morgan

52:00 - Peggy George
@Wes maybe you can share a link or two about where people can learn more about what you have written/shared via multimedia related to Skype and similar experiences :-) (if you can't take the mic)

52:19 - Peggy George

53:42 - Peggy George

53:50 - Peggy George

54:10 - RobynThiessen
being a connected educator creates unlimited possibilites for your student learning!

54:14 - Peggy George
great way to capture field trips :-)

54:15 - Debbie Allen
I teach 30 minute library classes in a K-2 school. Would Skyping work in such a limited context?

54:18 - Peggy George
thanks a lot Wes!!!!

54:43 - Louise Morgan

54:50 - RobynThiessen
@Debbie yes, as long it was set up ahead of time!
