05:49 - florence

06:03 - Debra Ferdinand
I am teacher, so I am seen as a teaching partner

06:17 - Peggy George
we need to have a practice session on voting :-) hard to figure out at first :-)

06:25 - joy2educ8
I agree!

06:36 - aunttammie
I took it to mean how do I see the librarian...I see her as a teaching partner, definitely

06:39 - joy2educ8
It's taken 5 sessions for me to figure this out :)

06:42 - Nerlene Sampson

06:43 - Peggy George
Here is the link for our Livebinder for today:

07:00 - Peggy George

but she's not in AZ!!

07:36 - Peggy George
so excited to be learning about what it means to be an embedded librarian!! :-) great concept!

08:33 - Visham Deonarine 1 #2
Hi good afternoon to all

08:45 - Peggy George
so many tools can be integrated with Google Apps

09:09 - Peggy George
Good afternoon Visham :-) Still 9:00am here in Phoenix

09:24 - Peggy George (Zoe Midler’ Blog)

09:27 - Visham Deonarine 1 #2
ok but I am not hearing

09:30 - Peggy George
yes seeing your slides now Zoe

09:31 - Lorie Moffat
you d

09:35 - Lorie Moffat

09:54 - Peggy George
if you're not hearing please run audio setup wizard--click on the red starburst in the top left corner of your screen

09:57 - Nerlene Sampson
should I log out and try again

10:25 - Debra Ferdinand
Yes, Nerlene, that may help.

10:42 - Visham Deonarine 1 #2
miss I am not hearing as well

10:49 - Peggy George
so many kids don't know how to use Google well--so important to teach them tips like Zoe will be sharing today

11:02 - Peggy George
Hi Shamblesguru!! Great to see you!!!

11:06 - Lorie Moffat
try audio setup wizard, mic with red gear

11:08 - Debra Ferdinand
Try the different options offered for your headsets. one will work for you.

11:08 - stidmama
Peggy! I missed you the other day -- I got a full-year position!!! I am working with the librarian to start using things like diigo... AND we are trying to get google apps going too! I am so excited about it. There are all sorts of cool things we have planned. :-)

11:12 - florence
I am hearing really good

11:16 - Wayne Mohammed
Hello Dr. Ferdinand are you seeing my message?

11:22 - Peggy George
are any of you Google Certified Teachers?

11:26 - joy2educ8
You have to have a domain name to sign up for Google Apps for Education?

11:30 - Debra Ferdinand
yes, Wayne.

11:38 - Wayne Mohammed
Ok thanks

12:04 - Visham Deonarine 1 #2
Dr. Ferdinand I am unable to hear

12:10 - aunttammie
unfortunately, you only have a one in a million chance of getting in...they need more Google academies!

12:13 - Peggy George
how fabulous @stidmama!!! With your new position this show with Zoe is perfect!!! Congrats!

12:22 - joy2educ8
Yeah, they changed their webpages and my web page went bye bye

12:41 - Rodney Ruiz
I an hearing very good

12:54 - Carolyn Dufort
Google Certified wannabe here

12:55 - Peggy George
feel free to share any of your google apps tips, resources, examples here in the chat and I'll add them to the Livebinder after the show

13:03 - Vencelia Edwards-O'Neil
I am hearing well in Tobago.

13:03 - Peggy George
me too @Carolyn!!!

13:22 - Peggy George
are you all clear about what embedding means?

13:42 - Carolyn Dufort
embedding- not exactly

13:53 - florence
Not exactly

14:17 - Allison Ramsay-Smith
I am logged in audio is excellent

14:17 - Wayne Mohammed
Ok let me say hi to all of our presenters today

14:42 - Peggy George
I think it means not being a librarian that only checks out books and does book talks and research with students but integrates all of the learning along with what they are learning in their classroom

14:59 - Carolyn Dufort
@Peggy, thanks

15:03 - joy2educ8
That describes me!

15:06 - Peggy George
that's a simplistic way to say it and Zoe will be giving us lots of examples

15:25 - florence
Good clearer no

15:33 - Jeff_Brain
Speaking of collaboration, I'm logging in from SFSU where I'm teaching a class simultaneously on Blackboard: Technology Competency for Teachers

15:55 - florence
Welcone Jeff

15:57 - Peggy George
I love the ways libraries are changing and moving away from fixed weekly library classes to flexible schedules

16:07 - Peggy George
fantastic Jeff!!!

16:09 - Jeff_Brain
At my middle school, the library/Integrated Media Center, is adjacent to my room, the cyber_lounge. How timely

16:33 - Eileen K
We need more librarians that see themselves as Zoe dies

16:38 - Peggy George
love that term "cyber-lounge"--great image for informal learning!

16:41 - Eileen K
I mean does

16:41 - Rodney Ruiz
Where is SFSU

16:41 - florence
This is a new perspective on libraries and librarians

16:46 - Peggy George
I agree Eileen!!!

16:46 - stidmama
Love the idea of a "cyber lounge" -- my students would be all over that.

16:55 - Carolyn Dufort
San Francisco State University

16:56 - Jeff_Brain
San Francisco State University

17:12 - Peggy George (continual work in progress)

17:16 - Cynthia
I'm at a Title 1 school in Las Vegas, and research is such a challenge, so is collaboration.

17:31 - Peggy George

18:09 - Peggy George
important point about the difference between cooperating and collaborating!

18:11 - joy2educ8
My school is Title 1 in a rural area, most kids do not have computers or internet. There is no wifi in the community, and anyone who has internet is on satelite dish or dial up

18:22 - pgoerner
Morning All...Hey Zoe

18:46 - Cynthia
@joy...I hear you! We are not rural, but we lack resources.

19:00 - Peggy George
@joy2educ8 what a challenge! do your students have cell phones or smart phones?

19:15 - pgoerner
That is a good group of folks to watch!

19:15 - Peggy George
Welcome pgoerner and Larry !

19:26 - Peggy George (The Role of the Teacher Librarian-Mike Eisenberg)

19:33 - florence
I am in the Caribbean and many of our Secondary schools have wifi

19:36 - stidmama
joy, most of the schools I have been in in the past have been the same way. Our home doesn't even get cell service!

19:43 - Peggy George
all of these resources are in the Livebinder!

19:50 - pgoerner
@peggy thanks for the link!

19:55 - Peggy George (Buffy Hamilton: The Unquiet Librarian)

20:02 - @shamblesguru [thailand]
Aren't all teachers morphing onto teacher/librarian mentors for learners ... just look at how much 'curation' teachers are now actively doing.

20:06 - Peggy George (Embedded Librarianship Final Report-David Shumaker).

20:19 - Peggy George (T. Langeberg’ Book Blog)

20:30 - Rodney Ruiz

20:35 - Peggy George
time is always a big issue!!

21:00 - Peggy George
upstream is another new word for me :-) is that like fish swimming upstream???

21:13 - stidmama
Our wonderful librarian sounds so much like Zoe, she is helping me a HUGE amount, and helping me think about how to use and integrate tech.

21:40 - Eileen K
I would think upstream is like backward design

21:45 - Peggy George
@stidmama you're so lucky to have a librarian like Zoe!

21:55 - joy2educ8
no cell phones, no smart phones

22:01 - florence
Is upstream through out the research process?

22:05 - Larry A
The librarian and the library need to become the hub for all schools and communities - experts in knowledge, search, research, tech, etc. and should train teachers and students about info and tech that's available

22:21 - Peggy George
totally agree Larry A!!!

22:59 - florence
I like the idea of lib. as part of the communities especially rural communities

23:13 - joy2educ8
Having to have a domain is a barrier to getting Google Apps for Education

23:37 - Peggy George
@joy2educ8 have you ever seen any of Shelly Terrell's TESOL webinars? she shares many technology tools but she also gives lots of ideas for hands-on activities for people who don't have technology

24:15 - Jeff_Brain
Here is a link to our library, very similar to how Zoe works.

24:16 - Peggy George
Several exemplars for A-Z Research in the Livebinder

24:18 - Peggy George
Letter O

24:19 - joy2educ8
I have very slow computers in school, with a very strong filter. The children do not have resources at home

24:28 - Larry A
We are in the age of information and knowledge and discovery - where else can we combine these but at what a library can become - we use the internet but many don't know how to use it well and settle for what we get on page 1 - 2 of our imperfect searches, even teachers

24:32 - Peggy George
thanks for sharing your link Jeff! I'll add it to the Livebinder later.

25:14 - Peggy George
what a great idea for using the Google doc!

25:28 - Peggy George
Letter P

25:41 - Peggy George
Letter M

26:20 - Peggy George
you can see her documents in your browsers with those links if you have a problem seeing the application sharing

26:26 - Jeff_Brain
Our IT director just opened google apps to the students in our K-8 district this week; and this A-Z is going to help us kickstart the process, huge thanks.

26:42 - Peggy George
are you seeing it now?

26:56 - Peggy George
you should be seeing a doc about "E"

27:01 - Lorie Moffat

27:06 - florence

27:07 - Debra Ferdinand
Could you increase the size of the writing?

27:11 - Peggy George
we have O,P,M in the Livebinder

27:16 - Rodney Ruiz

27:17 - Lorie Moffat
click off scale to ft

27:20 - Dexter Mc Gillvery

27:48 - Lorie Moffat
above the window is the small box

27:50 - Peggy George
if you uncheck "scale to fit" you can see the page much larger but you have to scroll back and forth to see it all

27:54 - Lakshmi 1
You can get the text bigger - using an ipad

28:00 - Debra Ferdinand
where is Off Scale?

28:12 - Lorie Moffat
right above the white window

28:20 - Lorie Moffat
on the grey border

28:23 - Peggy George
at top of whiteboard

28:31 - Debra Ferdinand
Thanks. Found it.

28:42 - Peggy George

28:45 - Omar
Lakshmi... we dont have IPad's

28:48 - Peggy George
amazing wiki!!!!

29:04 - Debra Ferdinand

29:06 - Jeanne Reed
When a badge is earned, where is it posted/displayed? Digital? A students' blog or webpage?

29:10 - Peggy George
check out all of the links in the menu on the left side of the wiki!

29:13 - Peggy George
worked great

29:18 - Peggy George
yes seeing the slides

29:20 - Darriel

29:20 - terence

29:22 - joy2educ8
I can see it but cannot read the text

29:23 - Lorie Moffat
back to slides

29:24 - Lakshmi 1
Yes they are great,

29:26 - Cynthia
Was that a Glog embedded in Wiki?

29:34 - Peggy George
yes!! a Glog!

29:36 - stidmama
Joy, one of the things I did before I had this current position was to pre-load a lot of things on a couple of my own devices. It wasn't the same as being completely online but it did allow the students to see and use some things that were not otherwise readily available. In my current school there is a huge competition for the few available computers and labs. My room only has two student computers, and the district policy is no personal devices. However I am thinking about how to do some work-arounds...

29:41 - Peggy George
they embed beautifully in a wiki

29:52 - Omar
the slides can heve a larger font size

30:14 - Jeanne Reed
Love the branding idea!

30:26 - Jeff_Brain
I need to go to my own collaborate session, but my teacher students and I look forward to accessing the recording later. Much thanks.

30:28 - joy2educ8
Yeah, we have a no personal device policy too, but my principal has given me permission to use my laptop, and she loaned me an iPad to use

30:41 - Peggy George
terrific Joy!

30:43 - Debra Ferdinand
Omar, click on the Fit Page drop down and increase the font size.

30:47 - Lorie Moffat
you can adjust the slide size as well, light grey drop box on dark grey top border

30:56 - joy2educ8
now i just need 21 more, lol

31:05 - aunttammie
stidmama, it sounds like you are in a very backward district! Has anyone more in the 21st century thought of running for school board?

31:21 - joy2educ8
I'll bet funding is the issue

31:22 - Peggy George
you're not meant to be able to read these documents on the slide--all of them are in the Livebinder so you can explore them later

31:31 - Omar
Thanks Dr. Ferdinand../.it works

31:38 - Lakshmi 1
Love... This

31:58 - Stella Maris Berdaxagar 1
I have to play all the roles by myself. I learn a lot but it takes a lot of time and painstaking since it is not a collaborative task.

32:00 - Peggy George
are any of you using badges with your students?

32:04 - florence
I like the rewards systems this is a good motivating strategy

32:16 - Peggy George
scroll a bit slower Zoe :-)

32:19 - Jeanne Reed
We do need the "stinking" badges from what I see in school. The kids love it!

32:32 - Stella Maris Berdaxagar 1
We use them through Edmodo.

32:33 - joy2educ8
Reminds me of Girl and Boy Scouts, LOL

32:45 - Cynthia
Love Edmodo!

32:49 - florence
Even adult learners may need some

32:50 - Peggy George
I agree Jeanne!! the kids love the badges! even teacher love getting badges for participating in webinars :-)

33:02 - joy2educ8
:) We do! :)

33:07 - Dexter Mc Gillvery
our school dont have such systems

33:15 - Jeanne Reed
I want to use badges but haven't figured out to distribute it digitally. Not everyone uses Edmodo.

33:17 - Carolyn Dufort

33:29 - Peggy George (Middle School: Cites and Sites)

33:37 - Lakshmi 1

33:39 - Jeanne Reed

33:40 - Carolyn Dufort
Although I still use stickers for their HW folders

33:48 - Carolyn Dufort
3rd grade

34:12 - Peggy George
EasyBib is amazing!! not only easy to use but helps students to learn how to do citations correctly

34:23 - florence
cannot go wrong with those paper stickers always on hand.

34:35 - stidmama
A lot of it has to do with funding, @aunttammie -- our school building is from 1962, and at the time was cutting edge. It is not a wealthy community. And I didn't mention that my computers in the classroom run XP... LOL but the children see what we do and (for a change) most of them have computers at home so I can at least do things like using my webpage to communicate with them regularly!

34:47 - Jeanne Reed
Need to run but thank you very much!

35:03 - Peggy George (Grade One: Ocean Research and Articles-Ocean Animals)

35:19 - Peggy George (Grade Two: Mighty 12 Olympians)

35:36 - Peggy George
so helpful to have real examples of these documents!!

35:58 - Peggy George (Grade Two: Modern Japan Postcards)

36:31 - Peggy George
do any of you have Google exemplars you could share with us?

36:41 - Peggy George
examples of student collaboration :-)

36:55 - Carolyn Dufort
waiting for 3rd grade link

37:13 - Peggy George (Grade Three: Blabberize-Vertebrates and Invertebrates)

37:18 - Peggy George

37:18 - Carolyn Dufort

37:30 - Peggy George
she has links for every grade level through Middle School

37:42 - Peggy George (Grade Four: Ancient Africa ePostcard)

38:05 - Peggy George (Grade Five: Explorers MixBook)

38:33 - Peggy George
what a fabulous way to collaborate on teacher lesson planning!! :-)

39:11 - Peggy George (Grade Five: Glogster-Animals)

39:36 - Rodney Ruiz
I support the teacher lesson planning

39:43 - Peggy George
if you're a teacher, wouldn't you love to have a librarian like Zoe to collaborate with???

39:51 - Lakshmi 1
It looks like real fun - even though time consuming to plan

39:52 - Carolyn Dufort
loving this!

40:16 - Peggy George (Middle School: Cites and Sites)

40:19 - Omar
This is worth giving a try..

40:31 - Lakshmi 1
Of course,

40:32 - Katie G
@Peggy- Zoe is the best to collaborate with! Invaluable!!

40:33 - Peggy George
LMC Collaboration Survey

41:03 - Peggy George
Be sure to take a look at that survey very soon because it will be going back to private next week. It's fantastic!

41:28 - joy2educ8
I've used this

41:39 - Lakshmi 1
I'm sure the majority was very satisfied

41:42 - Peggy George
thanks Katie G!!! I would love to have had a librarian like her in the school where I was a principal before I retired!!!

42:03 - joy2educ8
These are very easy to set up

42:15 - Larry A
Do you have a way for people to put in requests or ask questions so you can research if you don't know right then an there - a box, online, a form, etc.

42:18 - Peggy George
if you like that survey you could make a copy of it and revise it to meet your needs

42:37 - Peggy George
what valuable feedback from teachers!

43:05 - Peggy George
I'm hugely impressed Zoe!!!!

43:08 - stidmama
I used the google survey set-up when I was student teaching to do a couple online assessments! :-) It's a fun tool to use.

44:18 - Peggy George
this session is being recorded so if you came in late or need to leave early you'll be able to watch the full recording on our blog later today

44:32 - Peggy George (1st Grade Aztec, Incas, and Maya reflections)

44:46 - Lakshmi 1
I like the feedback

44:46 - Peggy George (2nd Grade Modern Japan ePostcards reflections)

45:00 - Peggy George
I'll bet the parents love to see the student portfolios too!!!

45:11 - Peggy George
Hi Carolyn! So glad you could join us!!

45:58 - Peggy George
that's such a great way to reflect on the lessons/projects without requiring a lot of meeting time. You can do it online when you have time :-)

46:30 - Peggy George
that would be so helpful to refer back to when you teach the unit again!

46:33 - Lakshmi 1
I love graphic organizer idea

47:21 - Peggy George
you need to have a strong trusting, working relationship with the teachers in your school (like Zoe clearly does) for that kind of shared reflection so it isn't threatening to the teachers

47:32 - Peggy George (3rd Grade Animoto Space reflections)

47:43 - Peggy George (4th Grade Ancient Africa)

48:06 - Peggy George
I've never created an eNotecard template! Can't wait to try that!

48:10 - Shiva Maharaj
evaluation at the end of implementation is great before you reimplement...good system cycle

48:11 - florence
Any form of collobration needs trust from everyone if it has to be successful

48:31 - Peggy George
absolutely @florence!!

48:47 - aunttammie
We WILL have a copy of this enotecard template in the livebinder, right?

48:56 - florence
What about formative evaluation of the system?

49:12 - Shiva Maharaj
the power of google doc!

49:18 - florence
I think Zoe is now addressing it

49:24 - joy2educ8
Do you have to give the students email accounts? That could be probloematic

49:26 - Carolyn Dufort
"add value to their process"

49:32 - Peggy George
@aunttammie if it's not there we'll add it. I think it's part of one of the reflections

49:52 - joy2educ8

49:57 - Peggy George
Lorie will ask your questions after the presentation is finished so please type them here in the chat!

52:10 - stidmama
I have so enjoyed and appreciated your presentation Zoe -- sorry I have to duck out early. Thank you for all these great ideas! I can hardly wait to share with my school's librarian-tech guru. :-)

52:34 - Peggy George
great resource on Zoe's wiki:

52:44 - stidmama
As usual, thanks again, Peggy, Lorie, Tammy, and all! I love my mornings "here!"

53:03 - Peggy George (FSA STEM Livebinder-STEMBig6)

53:15 - Peggy George
that whole Livebinder is embedded in our Livebinder for today :-)

53:22 - Peggy George
it's fabulous!

53:39 - florence
I love Prezi do you use in your presentations?

53:41 - Shiva Maharaj
thanks peggy

54:34 - Peggy George
also from her wiki:

55:03 - Allison Ramsay-Smith
I like how the technology is integrated to make the classroom collaborative.

55:41 - Peggy George
hard for teachers to think of themselves as entrepreneurs! :-)

56:20 - Debra Ferdinand
Yes I agree. They need to know how to take risks.

56:23 - florence
Very difficult to conceptualie Peggy

56:35 - Peggy George
what a great tip!!! don't just ask how can I help you but give a specific idea that you might be able to collaborate on based on what they are teaching

57:06 - Peggy George

57:22 - florence
Will the session be recorded so we can return to it again?

57:32 - Lorie Moffat
yes, this is bing recorded

57:37 - Lorie Moffat

57:51 - Peggy George

57:58 - florence
Thanks I will certainly like to go over the info.

58:37 - Peggy George
what fun!!! a Facebook template page within Google presentation!

58:42 - Rodney Ruiz
We need this technology in our schools together with the training

58:44 - joy2educ8

58:47 - Marva 4
recording is excellent for us who joined late!

58:49 - Nirupa Chatalal

58:49 - Nerlene Sampson 2
Nerlene just got back in

58:51 - Peggy George
love this idea!!!!

58:54 - Eileen
Amazing- 2nd !

59:06 - joy2educ8
too bad we can't get on FB at school

59:09 - Cynthia
I like the idea of pitching the ide before collaborating.

59:31 - Nirupa Chatalal
yes no access to social networking sites

59:35 - Peggy George
you can really explore those later using the links in the Livebinder

1:00:16 - Carolyn Stanley
Great job! Your enthusiasm is infectious!

1:00:21 - Peggy George
I don't think you're using Facebook for this project. You're using a Google template. That was 2nd graders and they aren't allowed on Facebook

1:00:27 - Omar
This technology will definitely benefit the students of Trinidad and Tobago...

1:00:31 - Allison Ramsay-Smith
Thanks Zoe it was a very informative presentation I will definitely share this info. with the administration and staff members at my school in Trinidad & Tobago.

1:00:39 - @shamblesguru [thailand]
Question: .. in the USA who owns or decides on the copyright license of materials produced by a teacher or by students .... the parents, teacher, school, district or ... ?

1:00:41 - Peggy George

1st Grade:
Students will conduct research on a specific animal and its habitat. Students will take notes using their research folders and flip book. They will use their habitat notes to draw a picture of their animal in its habitat using KidPix. Finally, students will record findings about their animal habitat into Voicethread, to accompany their image.
