Concept: Using VoiceThread to review and teach
Grade Level: 8
Detail: After introducing the VoiceThread tool to my students, we explored tons of different ways it can be used to expand our Personal Learning Networks. One of those ways is to actually create interactive 'How-Tos' using pictures, text comments, the drawing tool, as well as voice recording. In class I only have one microphone, so a creative way to get students to each add voice to theirs is to allow them to bring their cell phones to that class (or have them arrive at class and then give them 2 minutes to go to their lockers to retrieve their cell phones, and again at the end to put them back) and record using that. On VoiceThread there is actually a VoiceThread created showing you how to record via cell phone (it's super easy once you watch the basic video). I gave them a classwork with 10 8th grade objectives on it (2 from each subject) and had them choose ONE. It allowed kids to pick a subject they feel confident in and then have some choice within that subject. They then had to create a VoiceThread teaching that objective to one of next year's 8th graders. Below I've included some links of some creative lessons taught by them.
