03:02 - Kim T. AZ
Sorry, I was supposed to ask you the question.

03:15 - Peggy George
I always think of web 2.0 as the read-write web :-)

03:32 - @wfryer Wes Fryer
Patti what is your Twitter ID?

03:34 - Peggy George
I love that we can interact on the web and not just have to be passive consumers!!

04:17 - Peggy George
unbelievable what Nikki has done with Kindergarteners and first graders!

04:23 - @wfryer Wes Fryer
I think web 2.0 tools have become so normalized today many educators don't think of the past 1.0 version

04:25 - Patti Ruffing

04:28 - @wfryer Wes Fryer

04:31 - Peggy George (Follow Nikki Vradenburg on Twitter)

04:49 - Peggy George (Nikki’ class twitter account)

04:55 - Kim T. AZ
2.0 tools have been normalized but we are still working on using them effectively

So true! Technology can really open up the world to our kids! I use Google Chromebooks in my classroom.

08:22 - Peggy George
incredible learning spaces!

09:03 - Kim T. AZ
Makes it easier for a "team" approach

I love your learning centers!

I love it! It doesn't "feel" like a traditional classroom.

09:28 - Peggy George
Nikki's school reminds me a lot of my first principalship in a small community school in Leverett, MA. We had about 120 students. :-)

09:39 - Peggy George
hahaha!! no one sits on the chairs!

If I was a student, I wouldn't want to leave. I wish my 5-year-old could be a student in your room.

10:20 - @bcdtech Maureen
It's still an innovative school Peggy!

I love the "wonder" or question of the day!

I am using this.

10:57 - Peggy George
Hi Maureen!!! So glad you are here!

11:03 - Rawya Shatila
interesting idea

11:11 - Peggy George (Wonderopolis)

Thanks for the link Peggy.

I love "noisy" classrooms also...As long as kids are learning.

12:03 - Peggy George
it's great that they are using both tech and non-tech options!

12:31 - @plnaugle (Paula)
Every teacher should find a way to incorporate Wonderopolis into their day. Love Nikki's Wonder of the Day.

13:04 - Peggy George
this is really interesting! "What are you wondering?"

13:08 - Kim T. AZ
There must be great conversations at the dinner table in the student's homes!

13:17 - @wfryer Wes Fryer
I love this "We start every day in our classroom with WONDER"

13:30 - @plnaugle (Paula)
Wonderopolois articles have a "read to" feature which is get for those who having reading difficulties or our ELL students.

13:35 - @wfryer Wes Fryer
woo hoo classroom blogging!!!

13:38 - Peggy George (Easy Blog-K1’ Class Blog)

13:50 - Peggy George (Easy Blog 4th/5th Class Blog)

Great idea...

14:59 - Peggy George
fantastic Erica!!

15:21 - @wfryer Wes Fryer
"It was so amazing to scroll through their posts and see their growth" - what a great endorsement of a public digital portfolio!

15:24 - Terry

15:42 - Peggy George
I can definitely relate to that as a grandparent!!!! Love that technology makes this possible!

16:17 - Patti Ruffing
audio recording is a great feature to have!

16:32 - @wfryer Wes Fryer
"writing is emergent by talking is not"

16:36 - @wfryer Wes Fryer
"writing is emergent but talking is not"

16:47 - Peggy George

17:17 - Kim T. AZ
Going to be sharing this with teachers to use as examples of what they can do!

Thanks for the Easyblog link!

17:57 - Peggy George
she has some examples on her upcoming slides :-)

17:58 - @wfryer Wes Fryer
Easyblog was based in Singapore I think... really great folks

18:17 - Carrie
I was able to see the k/1 but not able to view 4/5 posts without password?

18:22 - Rawya Shatila
Easyblog for the kids to use?

18:41 - Peggy George
thanks Nikki!

18:45 - @plnaugle (Paula)
First time I've heard of EasyBlog. I am currently using SeeSaw. I used Kidblog until it went to a paid version.

18:46 - Carrie
thank you very nice work

19:08 - Peggy George
our show next week is going to feature Seesaw :-)

19:15 - Rawya Shatila

19:30 - Dejan Kreculj
I am beekeeper :)

19:32 - Peggy George
that's amazing that a Kindergartener can type that message!!!

19:40 - @plnaugle (Paula)
Love this from EasyBlog "Parents can download their child's blog for $9.99 at the end of the school year. This allows us to keep free for teachers and students."

19:52 - Peggy George
that is awesome to know Paula!! Thanks!

19:53 - Susie @shighley
I noticed that too, Paula

20:01 - Peggy George
what a bonus!!

21:13 - Peggy George
We had Pernille Ripp on one of our shows sharing all about the Global Read Aloud. She is the creator and she is an incredible educator!

21:27 - @plnaugle (Paula)
Blogging gives every student a voice in the classroom.

21:47 - Peggy George
if you have any questions for Nikki please type them in the chat and Paula will ask them at the end of her presentation :-)

22:07 - @plnaugle (Paula)
My 4th graders read Pax for the Global Read Aloud this year.

22:46 - Peggy George
wow! very impressive!

22:57 - Peggy George
I love his closing line!

23:06 - Peggy George
he made a name for himself :-)

23:08 - @wfryer Wes Fryer
woo hoo reading/writing workshop!

Love it!

23:55 - @wfryer Wes Fryer
Question for Nikki later: How do you help other teachers overcome fears of being "judged" by parents for student spelling errors on public blogs?

24:03 - Peggy George
her student blogs are in our Livebinder so once she gets the permissions set up you will be able to view them later.

24:12 - Kim T. AZ
I so want teachers to start letting students do this to demonstrate learning

24:26 - Peggy George
love that question Wes! That comes up a lot with digital writing!

24:42 - Peggy George (Screencastify)

25:00 - Peggy George
Screencastify for Chrome

25:12 - Peggy George (Shadow Puppet app)

25:21 - Peggy George (Book Creator app)

25:52 - Peggy George
many of these apps are also available for Android and Chrome

26:27 - Peggy George
the Chrome extension makes it so easy!!!

26:46 - @plnaugle (Paula)
Have students create paper slide videos about a topic is an easy way to have them share their learning.

27:16 - Peggy George
that's a great use for QR codes!

27:32 - @plnaugle (Paula)
Paper slide videos -

27:47 - Kim T. AZ
I love this!!!

27:59 - Peggy George
this is so cool!!! what a great idea!

28:12 - Peggy George
thanks for that link Paula! I'll add it to the Livebinder!

28:15 - @bcdtech Maureen
Are you using Recap for student reflection?

28:51 - Peggy George
love that collaboration!!!

28:55 - @plnaugle (Paula)
I am, Maureen. since I learned about it from you.

28:57 - @wfryer Wes Fryer
question for later: You said your default privacy setting for YouTube videos is "unlisted." Why not make them public? Do you know about a teacher who has had a bad experience sharing student work on a public YouTube channel?

So cute!

29:29 - Peggy George
such a simple but brilliant idea!!

29:32 - @wfryer Wes Fryer
I love this sound booth idea! Is there a link to a blog post about this?

29:33 - Peggy George

29:45 - Patti Ruffing
@wes, I also use unlisted and then share the link on our blog and my website

30:17 - Kim T. AZ
Just sent a screenshot of this slide to a teacher...hopefully will spark an interest. :)

30:29 - Peggy George
:-) great idea Kim!

30:53 - Peggy George
I'll upload Nikki's slides into the Livebinder so you can all view them later.

30:56 - @plnaugle (Paula)
Create a sound booth in your classroom. What a great idea!

31:00 - @wfryer Wes Fryer
@patti have you had a bad experience with publicly shared student work videos? My STEM kids in 2013-15 published over 400 videos publicly on our class YouTube channel & parents loved it. I think the encouragement to "publish unlisted" may be overly conservative

31:03 - Peggy George

31:22 - Peggy George (Brainpop) (BrainPOP Jr for K-3)

31:37 - Peggy George (Popplet app. Available on both the iPad and the web, you can create Popplet boards and access them from either platform.)

31:44 - Kim T. AZ
Will be sending out the link to this show to all the teachers in our district (again). I know it will help to inspire many of them.

32:00 - @wfryer Wes Fryer
1 of our high school science teachers has been using Google Drawing documents this year for mind mapping by students on Chromebooks

32:16 - Peggy George
you can share those screenshots in so many places! Padlet is a great place for students to share their work by uploading screenshots.

32:33 - @wfryer Wes Fryer
love these concept maps!

32:56 - Peggy George
that definitely shows conceptual understanding!

34:13 - Peggy George

34:44 - Peggy George

35:29 - Peggy George (Epic app)

35:38 - Kim T. AZ
Teachers have just discovered Epic, looking forward to what they will be doing with it.

35:39 - Peggy George (Unite for Literacy)

35:47 - Peggy George (Scholastic BookFlix - free trial)

36:21 - Peggy George
excellent point! students are using the same tools at home!

36:42 - @wfryer Wes Fryer
PreK teachers in Stillwell, Oklahoma are 1:1 with iPads and use "Easy Blogger Jr" to post to their class Blogger websites often. Great tool:

36:48 - Peggy George

37:07 - Peggy George (Kodable)

37:55 - @wfryer Wes Fryer
Nikki: Have your kids used PBS Scratch Jr yet? It's also great for coding time

37:59 - Peggy George
We had a great show a couple of weeks ago with Sam Patterson that was all about coding and the hour of code! Be sure to watch the recording if you missed it.

38:06 - Peggy George (Tynker)

40:50 - @wfryer Wes Fryer
what great virtual connections for these Montana students!

40:52 - Peggy George
how exciting your kids got to meet Andrew Gardner!!

41:25 - @plnaugle (Paula)
One of my newest favorite things to do using Google Hangout is to play a competitive Kahoot game against several other classrooms at one time. The kids love this.

41:30 - Peggy George
this is so inspiring!! the sky's the limit!

41:41 - Peggy George
what a great idea Paula!!!

41:42 - @wfryer Wes Fryer
I need to see if some of the elementary teachers at our school would like to participate in a mystery skype. @Paula I know @sfryer still needs to get with you on this!

41:42 - Carrie
@Paula very cool

42:15 - Kim T. AZ
What was the date again?

42:34 - Peggy George
was it Dec. 19?

42:35 - Kim T. AZ
Argh! We are out on holiday break.

42:36 - @plnaugle (Paula)
@Wes, yes we are still working on connecting @sfryer and my class. It will happen.

43:24 - @wfryer Wes Fryer
@plnaugle it's been a tougher year for Shelly this year... kids are much lower overall, more challenging with tech skills. But I know they'd really enjoy & benefit from a mystery skype!

43:48 - @wfryer Wes Fryer
I forget about recommending KidRex for search... good reminder

44:14 - Peggy George (iTunesU app) (Happy Numbers)

44:45 - Peggy George

46:08 - Peggy George (Reflector app)

46:30 - @plnaugle (Paula)
We needed to give Nikki two hours! Love all of her ideas.

46:46 - Peggy George
love how everything is so student directed and student centered!

46:53 - @wfryer Wes Fryer
ooo I don't know about participate learning... looks interesting

47:01 - @wfryer Wes Fryer
very cool

47:06 - Peggy George
Yes that Participate Learning link is in the Livebinder!

47:24 - @plnaugle (Paula)
@Wes love Participate Learning for Twitter chats especially.

47:25 - Peggy George
I love Participate Learning for saving resources and for participating in Twitter chats!!

47:36 - Peggy George (Distraction Free YouTube Chrome extension)

48:03 - Peggy George
Wes, that is the extension that was blocking my chat log on YouTube :-) Now I know to turn it off for your shows.

48:08 - Carrie
@Nikki: Reflector is your favored screen sharing/class management for 1:1 room environment with various devices at same time? and @Nikki: Why Promethean your one main tool you couldn't live without?

48:13 - @wfryer Wes Fryer
oh ok Peggy!

48:15 - Peggy George
WOW!!!! Fantastic Nikki!

48:30 - @wfryer Wes Fryer
yes fantastic ideas, wow you're doing such great work with your teachers and students!!!!!

48:37 - Peggy George

Can Easyblog be used with Twitter?

48:54 - Rawya Shatila
thanks for sharing all these tools

48:56 - Peggy George
great question Erica!

49:35 - Peggy George
it always pays to ask parents and community people for donations!!!

49:51 - @wfryer Wes Fryer
If you're interested in learning spaces & classroom redesign watch "Reimagining The Spaces In Which We Learn" by @djakes on @k12online:

50:24 - Peggy George
if you need to leave we'll keep the recording going so you can hear what you may miss!

50:24 - @wfryer Wes Fryer
@Erica you could set up a @IFTTT recipe to auto-tweet your blog post from Easyblog

50:49 - Peggy George
that's a great suggestion Wes

Thanks Wes!

51:17 - Peggy George (Easy Blog-K1’ Class Blog)

51:18 - @wfryer Wes Fryer
The EasyBlog company also has some great iPad apps that work with Blogger and WordPress. I've worked with PreK teachers the last 3 years who love using it.

52:01 - Peggy George
love that blogging philosophy!!! so important for kids learning about digital footprints :-)

52:01 - Kim T. AZ
I have to go. Nikki, thanks for an incredible show (but I knew it would be!).

52:31 - @wfryer Wes Fryer
this discussion about inside and outside sharing (who gets to see & who can comment) is REALLY important!

52:56 - Tiziana Angiolini ( ITALY)
Thanks a lot. Looking forward to next Saturday- Have a nice weekend!

53:04 - Patti Ruffing
teacher moderation of comments is very important

53:17 - Peggy George
with digital sharing parents can see the work of all of the students in their class and not just their own!

Great question!

I agree with you Nikki as a English teacher...

53:57 - Peggy George
I have seen some teachers post a "disclaimer" on their blog page about that point--that it is a work in progress and their authentic work

53:58 - @wfryer Wes Fryer
that is a GREAT answer! I love that. thanks :-)

It's all about monitoring growth! Great answer!

54:37 - Peggy George
that is so true about monitoring growth and progress!

54:48 - Susie @shighley
That is a great point, and way to show student growth

56:12 - @wfryer Wes Fryer
I haven't heard a bad story about teachers sharing student work online either... that's why I asked. I've had pushback on this too, and what I found was that the kids themselves pushed their parents to allow their work to be on our channel.

56:20 - Peggy George
and the public youtube videos may bring up inappropriate recommendations. Another great reason for using something like "Distraction Free" when viewing youtube videos

56:37 - @wfryer Wes Fryer
thanks for asking that Paula and answering Nikki... glad to hear your experiences have been positive

56:57 - Peggy George
and you can always share the link of unlisted youtube videos with people you want to see it

57:12 - Peggy George
that would be a great blog post, Nikki!!! sound booth!

57:13 - @wfryer Wes Fryer

1:00:28 - @wfryer Wes Fryer
thanks Peggy

1:00:30 - Peggy George
thank you so much for taking the mic Carrie!!!

1:00:47 - Patti Ruffing
I occasionally ran into conflict when reflector was running in adjacent classrooms, connections got confused

1:00:54 - @plnaugle (Paula)
We love when our participants take the mic. Yay for Carrie.

1:01:48 - Peggy George
Thank you so much Nikki for sharing your amazing class and tech experiences with us! Fantastic presentation!

1:01:50 - @wfryer Wes Fryer
Nikki you need your network setup with a "bonjour gateway" to help with your AirPlay issues. I'll be glad to share info about that later if you want :-)

1:02:15 - Carrie
