March 11, 2017
(Follow Jen Wagner on Twitter)
I met Jen when she picked me up at the San Diego airport at midnight to take me to the DEN Summer Institute. ;)
Thank you Peg Volak for introducing Jen!! :-)
Yep!! that is where I met Paula F2F
@Susie, I was attending the DENSI that summer.
I met Jen when she used to be one of the hosts for the EdTechTalk Women of the Web podcast!! :-)
but I don't remember it being at midnight -- I remember it being at 1PM -- not AM
We're so excited to have Jen here to share with us today!
Jen has been way ahead of the curve!
No, Jen, it was very late when I arrvied.
definitely old friends week!
data collection can sound like such a scary word but it's amazing what you can do with data in Projects by Jen!
it's so much fun to compare your results with other students around the world!
great description Jen!
Go for it!
My favorite every year is the O.R.E.O. Project. Love doing the stacking via GHO.
so much fun!!!
My principal loves coming to our classroom and competing in the stacking too.
what a great visual to remind us to open the doors/windows of our classrooms!
OREO project is a great way to start the year. I began back in 2013, I had NO idea Jen has been doing projects since 1999! You are ahead of the game!
Jen has the best giggle!
(Frequently Asked Questions for Projects by Jen)
Welcome Sava! So glad you could join us!
It's amazing that Jen has been running these projects since 1999!
David Warlick was one of the very first people I followed!!!
I loved that conference! I went to the one in Baltimore
I loved getting to meet David Warlick F2F at ISTE one year.
Alice Christie is in AZ!!!
Such greatness in AZ. :)
Oreo should be sponsoring the event. :)

(Monster Project -- Closed for 2017, but you can always ask)
Hi LucianeCurator! Welcome!
students exchange written descriptions via the wiki, and then recreate their partner's monster without ever looking at the "real thing".
Great for descriptive writing.
During the project, students create, discuss, describe, interpret, analyze, organize and assess their monsters as well as the monsters of their peers.
they really learn to observe detail!!
My kids have participated more than once in the Monster Project
We did this with our pen pals (not the official project). It was a great project for writing and being specific with detail.
They loved it!
if any of you have links to share (possibly blog posts about projects your students have participated in) please share the link here and I'll add it to the Livebinder.
I had my students draw a Christmas tree and write a descriptive paragragh about it, exchanged papers and other student had to recreate the tree. Students loved it.
that sounds like so much fun Paula!
(Global School Net - Project Registry for MANY projects)
With St. Patrick's Day coming up, you could have students do that activity with leprechauns.
Have my fire tablet and sending so many of Jen's links out to teachers...they are going to love this stuff!
(International Dot Day -- Yearly Project in September)
terrific Kim!!! :-)
My 4th graders have our PreKs come to our room and do fun dot related activities for Dot Day. Favorite activitiy is playing Twister with them.
hahahaha! Vygotsky :-)
some teachers do dot activities all year long
great Jen! you can screen share any time
Quiver is the new name of the app with the Dot Day AR; they have several free worksheets kids can use AR with (fire prevention, fireworks, etc.)
Watching the PreKs faces when their dot rises off the paper using the Quiver app is priceless!
I hear fine
Excited to see which books will be selected for the Global Read Aloud for next October.
kids love Quiver and AR!!
Global Read Aloud is amazing, when the author connects, it's really amazing!
(Global Read Aloud -- Yearly Project in September)
We read Pax for this year's GRA.
yes! You've Got Mail :-)
Students loved doing the Pax BreakoutEDU game after we finished the novel.
We read the GRA with our pen pals; Skype read a few chapters; at the end we share screen and play a game like Kahoot or Quizizz Kids love that they play and read from PA to SD!
the Google tools are fantastic for these projects
what a terrific idea Peg!!!
@Peg, yes my students love playing competitive Kahoot with other classes via GHO.

Jen, when I say we are doing another Project By Jen, my 2nd graders cheer. It's like 'they know you'!
(Information page for the “he Day the Crayons...and Their Friends Quit”roject)
Sad that Jen can't get Oreo onboard with her project.
(St. Patrick’ Day Project, March 13-17, 2017)
Peggy, here's the presentation of an etwinning project I really enjoyed participating with lots of teachers and students of various schools
that is so exciting!
Thanks Anthippi!! I'll add that to our Livebinder!
all of those links are in our Livebinder too
Thank you! That's an honour!
The archives are amazing!
The Day the Crayons Quit is an exciting new project idea. We are in the middle of creating and hope to have it posted soon.
the real world calls :-)
Taking part in the Holiday Card Exchange is so much fun. Love getting all of the cards from the other schools Jen connects us with.
no worries Jen!
if you have any questions for Jen about any of these projects please type them in the chat
DC Ducks :-)
that just brings that story to life!! Love it!!
@DrThomasHo (Indiana) #2
My daughter loved "Make Way for Ducklings" She's in college now
I first heard Make Way for Ducklings on Captain Kangaroo.
I want to explore them all! They sound so interesting!
hahaha Susie!! :-) What a trip down memory lane!
Those still remain many of my favorite books
Mike Mulligan, Stone Soup....
Shoeless and Bark
@DrThomasHo (Indiana) #2
I wonder how many times I read it to her. I loved reading the ducks' names
anything else you want to screen share for us?
would anyone like to take the mic to share a project?
raise your hand and we'll give you the mic
Love the Guess the Wordle activity!
(Books Go Global wiki)
oh yes Kim!!! I love Guess the World too! Jen share that idea!
@DrThomasHo (Indiana) #2
will be great for these activities
(Global School PlayDay)
tell people about Guess the Wordle
(Mystery Skype in the Classroom)
haha Paula singing praises :-) I think we all do that!!
(New Tech Network)
We wanted to do a live version of the OREO project. Each classroom making 1 tower, in front of Skype, competing with the other class. Never happened this year!
and Paula and Jan Wells were special guests on Classroom 2.0 LIVE several years ago to share their Mystery Skype experiences
what a great experience for students!
that really stretches your thinking!
Jan Wells from KS and I met via a Ning that Jennifer hosted back in 2009. We connected our classrooms via Skype every month during the 2009-2010 school year. Then we started presenting about our experience. Jan Wells and I finally got to meet F2F at ISTE in San Diego in 2012.
I really love the Classic Books Wordles!
not hearing you Thomas
great ideas ¡
there you are!!!
We love when people take the mic.
thanks Thomas! Great suggestion!
Big smile!!! That was my badge for Not at ISTE last year :-)
I'm so happy this community was created!
That was how I really learned how to use Google+
(#NOTatISTE Google community)
So much sharing going on!
I got to see Dennis Grice at ISTE last year. Love him and all of the great things he does. :)
Really similar to experiences at ISTE!! We even held our own Ignite sessions and had lots of "challenges" to participate in!
With #NOTatISTE, you CAN be in more than one place at a time
Peggy is the Queen of Livebinders!
I can't still believe I participated in the #NOTATISTE G+ community group! It was a great experience for me!
But there are prizes!
The Livebinder for last year is incredible! Barbara Tallent and I curated all of the links and it has videos, Periscopes, blog posts--tons of things!!
I actually got to see more of ISTE in NOTatISTE than I did in person at the actual conference!!
Yes there was a Voxer Karaoke :-)
just magic! tons of sharing!!
(Hashtag for #NOTatISTE16)
I was at Philadelphia and hope to go again soon! It was a great place! Just requested to join!
(What to do at NOTATISTE16 document)
just teachers sharing with teachers :-)
absolutely!!! I can't wait!
Two years ago I ran into someone right after I had been deeply involved with #NOTatISTE. He asked if what I had been doing, and I told him I just got back from ISTE... then realized I had been on my couch for days.
we did Jen!!!
Oh I hope I'll get to see you Jen at ISTE. :) We'll have tot do lunch.
Love that @Susie!
the challenges were so much fun!!! Yes, I won a door prize!!!!
it will take you hours and hours to browse through all of the great resources in the @notatiste16 Livebinder!!!
Sometimes our own ignite sessions were spontaneous, like, "at the top of the hour, I'll host a google hangout on ...."
you can see the challenges in that Livebinder
Not really ignites, but our own sessions
that's right Susie!! I loved the spontaneous nature of things!
Susie want to take the mic?
The atmosphere is so lively, being with people who love tech, want to learn, want to share, be involved, share, etc. The vibe seems the same with #NOTATISTE!! Excited since NOW, I'm going to ISTE!
ok Susie! I can relate!!
I might hack all hte way through!
just like me!
Susie isn't taking the mic
And #NOTatISTE led me to Edumatch, which is a whole other world!
We'll wrap up and share our upcoming webinars :-)
I'm so grateful for all of the conferences that are available virtually!!
sorry -- I forgot to leave time for conversations
i talked way too much
