Sydney is in an Apple school so many of her apps/tools are for Macs but there are comparable tools for PCs. If you have any tips or links to share as we go along please type them in the chat.

09:09 - @plnaugle (Paula)
Hi Valerie. Great to see you here. Go JPPSS educators. :)

09:58 - Susie @shighley
Fun story about her movie at theatre

10:17 - Peggy George
thanks Susie :-) She's a celebrity!

10:53 - Doug Henry 2
Lightworks is a free multitrack editor that runs on different platforms

10:59 - Peggy George
it's great when our students see themselves as the creators and directors of their movies!

11:22 - Peggy George
that is such a great point! you really learn and remember the content when you share it via video

12:18 - Peggy George

12:49 - Peggy George
they look like News Anchors!! Fantastic!

13:04 - Peggy George
Sydney is such a natural on the camera!

13:16 - Doug Henry 2

13:41 - Elizabeth ( Grenoble)
And Gr8 4 ESL repetition

13:50 - Peggy George
definitely Elizabeth!

13:50 - Cindy 1 #2
Kids love creating videos and then sharing them with classmates. It gives them the opportunity to teach one another...and learn from one another.

14:06 - Dejan Kreculj

14:19 - Peggy George
lots of possibilities!

14:46 - Peggy George
many people use Audacity for audio creations and that works on both Macs and PCs.

14:56 - Peggy George (Audacity for Mac and PC-a free multi-track audio editor and recorder)

15:21 - Eileen
My 3rd graders started with digital stories and love demonstrating what they learn and research.

15:34 - Peggy George
if you have questions as she goes along please type them here in the chat and Lorie will ask her at the end of her presentation

15:42 - Peggy George
love that idea Eileen!

16:08 - Peggy George
Sydney, do you have a favorite place for finding tutorials on these tools?

16:21 - Peggy George
have any of you used green screen in your videos?

16:32 - Doug Henry 2
Fun animation tool for younger students:

16:43 - Peggy George
thanks Doug!

17:05 - Doug Henry 2

17:09 - Dejan Kreculj
Like Pivot

17:24 - Peggy George
do you teach students to use the tools before you start the projects or do you just integrate it in as they are creating their projects?

17:42 - Dejan Kreculj

17:45 - Peggy George
Spanish Project

17:58 - Peggy George
How exciting! a twin brother!!

18:07 - Dejan Kreculj

18:17 - Peggy George
How did you create the scrolling text?

18:22 - Susie @shighley
So cool that it's close captioned

18:29 - Doug Henry 2
I give a brief intro and then I let them loose to discover the tools

18:32 - Lorie Moffat
Peggy George
12:25 PM
How did you create the scrolling text?

18:43 - Peggy George
yes that is a great example! loved seeing the green screen effect!

19:07 - Peggy George (Pages for Mac)

19:15 - Peggy George (Keynote for Mac)

19:26 - Peggy George
Keynote is an outstanding presentation tool!

19:43 - Annette Whitby
Question: Do you have a favorite strategy for creating a green screen?

19:58 - Peggy George
This is Sydney's website.

20:11 - Susie @shighley
Some of our 5th grade students used iMovie to create projects, even though they had little video to import. They used photos, animation, added music and narration. We have one lab of macs

20:32 - Peggy George
those are important 21st century skills! and they can all be learned through video creation!

20:52 - Peggy George
Susie, do you have any links you can share of your student examples?

21:12 - Glenn Hervieux @sisqitman
Reflective learning - how often do we give students that opportunity?

21:16 - Peggy George
that is a terrific slide!

21:35 - Peggy George
Health Project

21:44 - Cindy 1 #2
Great point! It's not just about creating videos. It's about learning to work with others and solving problems.

22:20 - Peggy George
wow! powerful message is such a short amount of time! 23 seconds!

22:24 - Elizabeth ( Grenoble)
Tks 4 the inspiration.

22:28 - Susie @shighley
I don't have access to them myself. They shared w/ their teacher via drive

23:12 - Peggy George
if any of them can be made public I would love to add them to our Livebinder. May not be possible but I always love seeing examples!

23:38 - Peggy George
Radiation Project

23:55 - Peggy George
much more interesting than a PPT slide!

23:59 - Susie @shighley
Um. S'mores. Appeal to our sense of taste

24:13 - Peggy George
love S'mores!!!

24:20 - Dejan Kreculj

24:27 - Sofia Segurola Calderon
do students really want to see me on video?

24:53 - Peggy George
it's a natural match for young adolescents!

25:13 - Peggy George
great question Sofia! I'm very interested in how Sydney will answer that!

25:21 - Peggy George
Hi Wes! So glad you could join us!

25:28 - Sofia Segurola Calderon
maybe teaser movies about they are about to learn, Great for Social Studies not so for Spanish Lang Arts

25:46 - @wfryer

26:00 - Sava Kovacevic

26:13 - Susie @shighley
podcast by David Cooper Moore about Media at the Core

26:28 - Peggy George
I've seen some great teacher videos welcoming students to the new year and classroom! They send it out to students before the year begins.

26:30 - Sofia Segurola Calderon
ideas maybe at the end? I need to learn how to use and make movies to be able to teach my kiddos.. Hard

27:07 - Sofia Segurola Calderon

27:12 - Peggy George
Amen!! Sydney is right! Schools have to change to make learning more engaging for students!

27:15 - Sofia Segurola Calderon

27:20 - @wfryer
It's an interesting question to consider what information and knowledge is not online at this point

27:22 - Peggy George
I love that slide!!!

27:26 - Susie @shighley
I don't know that I would say that we have access to all of the world's knowledge via the net

27:32 - Patti Ruffing
You can relay some quick information in video format without being on camera yourself with an app such as Tellagami, and others, where you use an avatar

28:01 - Susie @shighley
Good point, Patti. I need to make a good avatar of myself

28:41 - Oronoque
@Susie, I am an avatar

28:58 - Peggy George
WOW! so many skills being used!

29:10 - Peggy George
Book Trailer Project: This is a short clip of my eighth grade book trailer project for my critical literacy class.

29:23 - Peggy George
love seeing these examples!

29:52 - Stella Maris Berdaxagar
I have made machinimas on Second Life.

30:13 - Doug Henry 2
I'll bet the actors had fun!

30:27 - Peggy George
I would love to hear even more about how this book trailer was created! It is amazing! How much time did it take you to prepare and create and publish it?

30:49 - Patti Ruffing

30:49 - Susie @shighley
Wow! I want to see more.

30:56 - Glenn Hervieux @sisqitman
Cool :)

30:58 - Peggy George
I would definitely want to read that book after seeing the trailer!

31:04 - @wfryer
Nicely done. How did you get access to shoot video at the helicopter?

31:45 - Peggy George
Do you ever give assignments that start with asking students to "inspire" you? :-) Great strategy!

32:28 - Susie @shighley
I would like to know what kind of camera she usually uses. Many kids do use their phones now

32:37 - Peggy George
love that! replacing inspire with passion! That allows students to become fully engaged in the process!

33:22 - Patti Ruffing
I would be interested in knowing how much class time students are given to work on projects like we have seen or do they do much of it on their own time.

33:22 - Peggy George
Another great example in our Livebinder: (The Message: New York Film Academy, a short film that utilized all of the skills that we had learned throughout the week. Each film was required to have ten shots, no dialogue, and we were given 90 minutes to film. Sydney wrote, directed, and edited the film)

33:43 - Peggy George
We'll ask your questions now. :-) Feel free to keep typing them!

33:45 - Sava Kovacevic

33:47 - Cindy 1 #2
It was an awesome movie!

33:58 - Peggy George (News article about her short film, “he Games of Hunger,”hich was screened at the Hampton Arts Twin theater in Westhampton Beach. “1 Year Old Girl Makes Her Directorial Debut in Westhampton Beach”

33:59 - Annette Whitby

34:11 - Peggy George
that is so exciting!

34:36 - Peggy George (March 9, 2015, one of three student keynote speakers at the 17th Annual Suffolk ASSET Conference. ASSET is the largest technology conference for teachers and administrators on Long Island)

34:41 - @wfryer
Do you want to do filmmaking as a career or major?

34:42 - Sofia Segurola Calderon

34:55 - Doug Henry 2
Outstanding & Inspiring! Thanks, Sydney!

34:55 - Peggy George

36:51 - Madeline 5

36:59 - Sofia Segurola Calderon
Did her teachers make vovies formher classes with her in middle school?

37:50 - Peggy George
what fun! so great to hear these details!

37:55 - Sofia Segurola Calderon
that could help and motivate to read because they will make a movie

38:04 - Peggy George
I think so too Sofia!

38:41 - Kevin
What was your experience at NY Film Academy like?

38:43 - Peggy George
I think we saw that camera in one of the videos. But we don't need professional quality cameras to tell stories :-)

39:25 - Sofia Segurola Calderon
I purchased 10 Flip cam 5 years ago but stopped using them because can not edit

39:27 - Peggy George
what are some of those other interests Sydney? awesome that you have so many choices to explore!

39:31 - Sofia Segurola Calderon
any ideas?

40:00 - Peggy George
Sofia have you tried editing them with another tool (like iMovie or youtube editor)?

40:13 - Peggy George
Anyone want to take the mic to share?

40:21 - Sofia Segurola Calderon
I do not know how?

40:22 - Jane Lofton
How have you set up your green screen?

40:25 - Peggy George

43:34 - Peggy George
great tip about the rolls!

43:34 - @wfryer
Do you edit your films in app or in a program?

44:26 - @wfryer
