07:14 - Karoline Towner #2
Rae I'm in Chicago too

07:15 - Patti Ruffing
ha, some of us still can't

07:21 - Peggy George
we all we don't teach for the money :-)

07:25 - Kim Thomas
You can see why I love working with her...

07:27 - Peggy George
we all know...

07:34 - Peggy George

07:57 - Peggy George
This is the link for the Madison School District.

08:20 - Peggy George
Our Livebinder with tons of links for digital assessment tools is here:

08:42 - Julie Leckman
Students will beg for a Kahoot even in math.

08:48 - Peggy George
kids really LOVE Kahoot! and getting to create their own is a fabulous idea!

08:59 - Kim Thomas
very true...keep it limited

09:22 - Peggy George
if any of you have questions for anyone on the panel, please type them in the chat and Lorie will ask them for you during the Q/A

09:42 - Alan Guttman of my indicators of quality engagement: radiation (e.g. the excitement from another classroom, radiation and capturing the attention of other children/students - in this case a teacher)

09:45 - Peggy George
that's awesome that there are so many examples you can borrow from for Kahoot!

09:47 - Patti Ruffing
always preview the questions on the public kahoots, sometimes they have errors

09:51 - Kg
@Rae: Good point...crowd sourced content :)

09:53 - Peggy George (Kahoot)

10:09 - Kg
@Patti: For sure...good point.

10:12 - Peggy George
I can't stop laughing Rae!!!

10:32 - Peggy George
that is the perfect way to learn technology! Ask the kids!

10:40 - Peggy George
Welcome Gordon!

11:01 - Kim Thomas
a bit of a stretch, I have been in her room....she gives her students to create their own learning

11:10 - Peggy George
good advice about picking a name :-)

11:33 - Kim Thomas
this works on all devices

11:44 - Kg
@Kim: I have used it f2f...can it run asynchrously when kids are not in one place (like Socrative can)?

12:14 - Kim Thomas
good far as I know it doesn't

12:23 - Kg
@Kim: ty

12:24 - Peggy George
I have noticed that the questions don't appear on my iphone, just the colored shapes. Is that the way it works on mobile?

12:38 - Julie Leckman

12:41 - Kim Thomas
happens all the time :)

12:54 - Patti Ruffing
peggy, that is my experience also, i have to have it on the screen so the question is visible, the students only see the answer choices

12:58 - Peggy George
hahaha! my problem is I'm so slow it moves on before I get my answer chosen.

13:19 - Peggy George
love seeing them so engaged!

13:40 - Peggy George
woo hoo Julie!!!!

13:48 - Lorie Moffat

13:48 - Alison Oswald-Keene

13:49 - Peggy George
yes hearing great

13:53 - Kg
@Rae: TY for such a nice intro to Kahoot.

14:24 - Rae Dewberry

14:54 - Peggy George
Rae, during Q/A could you share a few examples of questions that worked really well for you (both a student example and a teacher example)? :-)

15:01 - Kim Thomas
Julie is truly a trailblazer when it comes to incorporating tech in her teaching, both as a tool for her and for her students

15:18 - Kg
Socrative has gone through a major facelift in the recent past. How do folks like the new iterations?

15:20 - Peggy George
I had the hardest time learning how to pronounce Socrative. Julie has it nailed!

15:37 - Peggy George (Socrative: FREE student response system that can be used on any device)

15:47 - Peggy George
seeing it great Julie!

15:57 - Peggy George
Hi Maureen! So glad you could join us!

16:03 - Kg
I used Space Race with a bunch of college deans...couldn't tear them away. It is a cool tool for anyone.

16:25 - Kg
If you are a HS teacher, how do you deal with the 50 student limit in an account?

16:32 - Kim Thomas
These tools are good for students and teachers. Used it with the MICE and they were so competitive!

16:35 - Peggy George
@Kg would you be willing to get on the mic during Q/A to share about Space Race? Sounds fantastic!

16:46 - @bcdtech Maureen
So sorry to be so late... caught up in other work

17:08 - Kg
@Peggy...ugh...sure, if there is time. I bet Julie will hit on it, though :)

17:19 - Peggy George
I love how you can use these tools on the fly! quick spot check for understanding :-)

17:24 - Kim Thomas
good point Julie!

17:25 - Peggy George
great Kg!

17:48 - Kim Thomas
the quick feedback is so valuable

17:56 - Peggy George
you can get so much more information this way than just using thumbs up/thumbs down!

18:04 - Alison Oswald-Keene
that sounds fantastic! Love the idea of being able to actually get real time feedback

18:20 - Peggy George
in case you missed it, Livebinder link for today.

19:20 - Kg
@Julie: I have found that those extra steps to export the results, etc., takes too much time on the fly. Good reason to look at some of the data later.

19:20 - Peggy George
do any of you grade students using these tools? it seems like the grades would interfere with the motivation of the game.

20:02 - Kim Thomas
great display of information

20:14 - Peggy George
I have included quite a few links in the Livebinder for exit tickets. Always good to have the ideas and they don't all use technology.

20:34 - Peggy George
those graphs are really helpful!!! very quick analysis!

20:43 - Peggy George
Hi Jasmina! Welcome!

20:49 - Alison Oswald-Keene
do you use these for grades?

20:55 - Peggy George (11 Ways to Use Socrative as a Formative Assessment)

21:17 - Peggy George
This is an excellent help document for Socrative. (Socrative User Guide-PDF)

21:22 - Suzanne Sallee
Good for pre-assessment too.

21:37 - Kg
I have used socrative scores as "done" or "not done," not scores entered in the gradebook.

21:40 - Peggy George (Ways to Use Socrative-PDF)

22:01 - Kim Thomas

22:12 - Kg
@Julie: GREAT idea.

22:13 - Peggy George
love these tips!!! so helpful!

22:35 - Jessie McKinley
she means socrative...

22:53 - Peggy George

22:56 - Peggy George

23:04 - Kim Thomas
she also worked hard and got a grant for tech!

23:35 - Kg
@Julie: Great illustration on the stuff we need to do to get the devices we need :)

23:40 - Peggy George
what an awesome use of the grant funds! the tablets really help to differentiate and personalise the learning!

24:02 - Peggy George
Congrats Julie for winning an AzTEA-Century Link grant!!!

24:29 - Kim Thomas
She has tablets (25?) and a charging cart...she really has enriched the learning in her classroom with these tools.

25:01 - Kg
WOW...never used this. Way cool for lotsa things.

25:22 - Kim Thomas
no login....wahoo!

25:39 - Kim Thomas
no, students don't do that!

25:41 - Kim Thomas

25:44 - Kg

26:13 - Peggy George
fantastic job Julie and Rae!!!

26:34 - Peggy George
I love hearing from a music teacher who uses technology!!!!!

26:35 - Kg
@ Julie: Wow...great math examples. TY

26:50 - Kim Thomas
Jessie is another trailblazer in the use of tech in his classroom

27:17 - Kg
Jessie is an inspiration for lifelong learning :)

27:18 - Rae Dewberry
This guy in an inspiration. Love men in elementary classrooms.

27:30 - Kim Thomas

27:51 - Peggy George

28:13 - Kim Thomas
Jessie has some pics of this in the following slides so you will have a visual

28:36 - Peggy George
love that!!!

28:40 - Kg
I have gotten lazy...I bought the laminated cards from Amazon, after printing them for awhile.

28:58 - LucianeCurator 1 #2
Kindly I invite to subscribe to If you are interested by Erasmus+ Ka1 Courses organized by Euneos Finland

29:04 - Kim Thomas
no lazy, smart!

29:20 - Peggy George
there are some great video tutorials for these tools in the Livebinder!

29:35 - Kg
@Kim: No access to a laminator...and wanted durability.

29:44 - Peggy George
!Kg probably cheaper in the log run and so much more efficient :-)

29:51 - Kim Thomas
To get teachers excited about using this tool I have created a class set of cards on cardstock and had them laminated (matte finish) and given them out to teachers who give it a try

30:06 - Peggy George (Plickers is a tool that lets teachers collect real-time formative assessment data without the need for student devices)

30:09 - Alison Oswald-Keene
that's a great idea

30:10 - Kg
@Kim: Great "hook.

30:26 - Kim Thomas
Yup, need to help out teachers when you can :)

31:04 - Kg
Wow...great questions.

31:16 - Peggy George
what a great use of Plickers following a performance! I'll bet the kids love it!

31:24 - Kim Thomas
Yes, all students must respond

32:02 - Alison Oswald-Keene
HOw do you know who gives what answer?

32:17 - Kim Thomas
he will show this in a image in a minute

32:21 - Alison Oswald-Keene

32:24 - Peggy George
Some Plickers resources:

32:46 - Kg
I have been using Plickers with cooperative learning groups in the first-year college seminar I am teaching. I pair the responding with CL structures, and then the group "votes". It makes scanning the room quicker...6 inputs not 20ish.

33:04 - Kim Thomas
Kg, great management idea

33:07 - Peggy George
Pinterest board for Plickers:

33:19 - Kg
@Peggy: Nice resource! TY

33:36 - Kim Thomas
Didn't think about changing the size of the cards - thanks for that tip

33:51 - Kg
Here's the Amazon link:

34:24 - Peggy George
thanks Kg!!! If any of you have links to share for examples of any of these tools (or other tools) please post them in the chat and I'll add them to the Livebinder

34:28 - Kim Thomas
They must have a large family, right?

34:54 - Kg
@Kim: LOL.

34:56 - Kim Thomas
Another great idea...matte page protectors

34:57 - Julie Leckman
I use the large page with 8th grade. I have many students an a pretty packedclassroom so the large cards are easier for my tablet pick up.

35:26 - Kg
@Kim: Great idea. I originally tried the non matte page protectors...not so good.

35:30 - Peggy George

35:41 - Peggy George
that blog post tutorial has a great video for Plickers

35:58 - Peggy George
love the categories!

36:01 - Kim Thomas
It is obvious that Jessie is our district Plickers expert....

36:17 - Julie Leckman
Go Jessie!

36:26 - Peggy George
once you get some of the content created in Plickers it will be so easy to maintain!

36:39 - Peggy George
very obvious Kim!!! Love hearing these examples!!

37:00 - Kg
Great point about not relying on wifi if it is rocky.

37:18 - Peggy George
great solution to the wireless access problem!

37:56 - @bcdtech Maureen
@Kg Can you explain CL structures? "I pair the responding with CL structures, and then the group "votes". It makes scanning the room quicker...6 inputs not 20ish."

38:16 - Julie Leckman
So great with kinder! They are smart and adoreable!

38:17 - Peggy George

38:50 - Julie Leckman

38:56 - Peggy George
it looks like an eye exam :-)

39:11 - Kim Thomas
you are right Peggy

40:05 - Kg
@bcdtech: So...I put the kids into 4 person Numbered Heads Together it like Kagan tells us to. Then - before they report out - I have each group vote using Plickers. It gives us live feedback and keeps everyone attending. AND it gives me data back. Then we proceed with some reporting out verbally, as you normally would in Numbered Heads Together (as an example) or any other cooperative learning structure.

40:08 - Alan Guttman
Do you print QR code on both sides - so that the students don't need to see to look at the front of the card to properly orient their response?

40:29 - Peggy George

40:51 - Kim Thomas
thanks for the input relating to using this tool with Kagan. Will definitely be sharing this with our teachers.

41:06 - Peggy George
very helpful tip about the colors!

41:12 - Patti Ruffing
is it hard to pick up all the responses in a large class? I am wondering if there are any glitches or if sometimes certain cards don't register

41:22 - Peggy George
love that question Alan!!

41:40 - Kg
@Kim: Just a way to keep things moving. College freshmen are alot like kindergarten, but often less well behaved. LOL.

41:42 - Alan Guttman
Hi Peggy. Thanks. yes, I've been a stranger

41:44 - @bcdtech Maureen
Thanks Kg!

41:46 - Julie Leckman
I do not print on both sides - but I teach 8th I would think you want to do this with the littler guys.

41:56 - Kim Thomas
Kg - too true!

41:57 - Peggy George
@Alan so great to see you!!!!

42:33 - Kg
@Kim: I also put the Plickers cards inside the cooperative learning folders that each group gets, so there is less materials management needed.

42:54 - Kim Thomas
Kg - you are a wealth of good ideas!!

43:00 - Peggy George
Another great Pinterest board with lots of alternatives! (Pinterest board by TeacherSolutions for Formative Assessment-99 pins)

43:13 - Kg
Hope they keep it free, as they continue to develop.

43:23 - Peggy George
love that you can add pictures to i!

43:38 - Peggy George
awesome Jessie!!!! you leave us wanting to hear even more!!!!!

43:55 - Julie Leckman
thank you Jess

44:06 - Peggy George (Google Forms)

44:06 - @bcdtech Maureen
OK- now I have homework- I have never heard of Kagan- did not go the traditional teacher path..

44:16 - Julie Leckman
Love this tool.

44:18 - Kg
@Jessie: Woot woot!!

44:36 - Jessie McKinley

44:37 - Peggy George
really Maureen??? :-) Kagan cooperative learning strategies are fabulous and I know you use them!

44:44 - Sofia Segurola Calderon
survey too?

45:11 - Peggy George
such clever names! MICE and CATNIP :-)

45:37 - Peggy George (Alice Keeler: Google Forms: Create a Formative Assessment Quiz)

45:44 - Kg
@bcdtech: Structured cooperative learning...helps with procedures big time. Lots to choose from. Watch...they are much into selling their stuff (which is generally good), but here is a start:

45:50 - Peggy George
Alice Keeler has incredible resources for Google Forms!

45:58 - Peggy George (Alice Keeler: 8 Google Forms Formative Assessment Tips)

46:01 - Kg
Alice Keeler is a Google Diva.

46:08 - Peggy George (ShakeUpLearning: Google Forms Cheat Sheet for Teachers)

46:14 - Peggy George
love that cheat sheet!

46:14 - @bcdtech Maureen
@Peggy- I use CL strategies all the time... not being in the public sector, we didn't use the acronyms, nor have the same traiining. The acronyms in public school drive me nuts... and that's coming from the edtech/IT sector.

46:45 - Jessie McKinley
In Madison, we use Kagan Structures A LOT... We have a couple of trainers on board....

46:59 - Kg
@bcdtech: Sorry...I just typed "CL" for chat shorthand :)

47:15 - Peggy George
I agree about acronyms but they do make it easy to talk and tweet about (if you know what the acronyms mean) :-)

47:43 - Peggy George
This is a fabulous resource for classroom ideas for Google forms: (Tom Barrett’-Interesting Ways: 86 Interesting Ways to Use Google Forms in the Classroom)

47:49 - @bcdtech Maureen
No problem... I didn't mean that. Teaching for more than 30 years, but just now in the public schools- so the language, terms throw me

48:04 - Kg
Forms has really been evolving...more ways to "customize" we can keep hoping.

48:10 - Karoline Towner #2
flubaroo is great!

48:16 - Peggy George
Love this idea too (video alert-watch it later): (Julie Strasser: How to use YouTube and Google Forms as a Formative Assessment)

48:32 - Kg
Eric is a superb resource on all things Google, for sure.

48:46 - Peggy George
awesome Kim!!!! just enough to make us hungry for more :-)

48:54 - Kg
@bcdtech: :)

49:00 - Peggy George
if you have questions for the team please type them here

49:12 - Alan Guttman
So, I may have missed previous discussions on this - but I'd be interested to know if BYOD creates privileged v. non-privlleged equity issues in education. These are all great resources, but how can there be equitable access with BYOD...e.g. those Without Digitald Device Left Behind...

49:40 - Peggy George
some of these tools can be used with one computer and a projector

49:49 - @bcdtech Maureen
In addition to Keeler and Curts I also follow Tom

49:52 - Kg
@Jessie: are so lucky in Madison.

49:58 - Kathi 2
I like Quizizz - very similar but the questions are on the student device

49:58 - Sofia Segurola Calderon
do students log in as social or students

50:06 - Kg
@bcd: Super...thanks.

50:12 - Karoline Towner #2
can Plickers questions be posted for the class to see without the answer being shown?

50:29 - Kg
@Karoline: yes

50:36 - Sawa
Thanks, thanks... exelent! :-)

50:51 - Peggy George
I like Quizizz too :-) and I just learned about Quizalize

51:22 - Kim Thomas
Generally used to form instruction

51:26 - Peggy George
take advantage of this time to ask your questions of our guests! their advice is so helpful!

51:44 - Sofia Segurola Calderon
right before an assessment?

52:25 - Alan Guttman
It's pretty incredible - all of these 21st century assessment tools and we're still talking "grades" - philosophy, purpose of education still in 20th century

52:33 - Patti Ruffing
I have found that if everyone is not on the same network, such as someone on cellular vs someone on wireless network, the responses don't register or even show in the same amount of time, and kahoot gives credit for quicker answers

52:51 - Peggy George
a great blog post by Tom Mullaney: (Tom Mullaney: Make Paperless Assessment with Google Forms-Part 1 of 2)

52:52 - Kg
I ask the kids to "belly up" their Plickers, to have their answers be more "their own."

53:01 - Karoline Towner #2
ok thanks

53:07 - Kim Thomas
Kg - another Kagan strategy:)

53:11 - Kg
But you can show the question without the correct answer showing for everyone.

53:14 - @bcdtech Maureen
@Patti I have found that as well... and altho the timer is fun for some- it inhibits many too

53:19 - Kg
@Kim: yeppirs.

53:21 - Sofia Segurola Calderon
plikers ipad and chrome book friendly

53:40 - Peggy George
I'll add any of your links to the Livebinder after the show. Thanks for sharing!

53:59 - Peggy George
hahaha! the advantages of having the whole panel together in one room :-)

54:36 - Peggy George
if you need to leave we'll keep the recording running so won't miss anything :-)

54:37 - Karoline Towner #2
there a few glitches with the Plicker cards if students scratch the laminated cards or use eraser marks. make sure students are careful

54:40 - Alan Guttman
Could Plickers be used as Space Race - without student names showing - with group results projected on board

54:57 - Alison Oswald-Keene
what do you mean by different types of Plickers cards?

55:07 - Peggy George
would any of you like to take the mic to share? @Kg? @Alan Guttman?

55:22 - Kg
Isn't there a limitation on 50 students per account?

55:41 - Jessie McKinley
I've also have a class set up in anyonomous (sp) mode where there is no names but the number....

55:49 - Alan Guttman
Thanks Peggy - I'm fine in chat mode....a chance for me to keep my mouth shut....rare as that is

55:51 - Peggy George
that's a great idea Jessie!

56:05 - Peggy George
hahaha Alan! You're always welcome to come on mic to share :-)

56:28 - Kg
Ah, great idea about staggering! I have been using different accounts.

56:39 - Jessie McKinley
plickers says 63 and if you have more students than 63 to create another class...

56:40 - Peggy George
60 kids in one classroom! that would be a LOT of students!

57:11 - Peggy George
I have heard Hope King talk about her 5th grade at the Ron Clark Academy and she has 59 students and does AMAZING things to keep them all engaged!!!

57:39 - Peggy George (Hope King's blog)

57:49 - Peggy George
love the enthusiasm!

58:38 - Kg
@Jessie: TY for the info on Plickers...I had been asking about the Socrative student limit. Grouping and staggering administration can work well with both tools. Great ideas from all of you.

58:51 - Peggy George
we need to help parents make the adjustment to not expecting piles of papers coming home!

59:47 - Alison Oswald-Keene
Any suggestions of good places to find grants to get more technology?

1:00:09 - Peggy George
I've included some recordings for some excellent webinars on some of these tools and on digital assessment in the Livebinder

1:00:16 - Kg
@Peggy: Good point. TY for asking about the mic. I actually have to scoot out. Will get back to the recording, to pick up on final questions. This is such a POWER TEAM...ty.

1:00:26 - Peggy George
thanks Kg!

1:00:39 - Peggy George
yes!!!! Alan!!!!

1:00:42 - Alan Guttman

1:00:43 - Tiziana Angiolini Italy

1:00:45 - Alan Guttman

1:00:46 - Rae Dewberry
For Kahoot students team up - sometimes as many as three in a group.

1:00:54 - Peggy George
just gave you the mic Alan

1:01:07 - Lorie Moffat
Click on talk

1:01:38 - Peggy George
not hearing you Alan-maybe a bandwidth issue?

1:01:39 - Alison Oswald-Keene
I can't hear anything

1:01:42 - Peggy George
did you click on the talk button?

1:01:57 - Alan Guttman
Where is talk button

1:01:58 - Sofia Segurola Calderon
ca not hear

1:02:22 - Peggy George
hooray!!! now we can hear Alan!

1:02:43 - Kim Thomas
Goog point....

1:02:46 - Kim Thomas
Good point

1:02:53 - Kim Thomas
I should not be allowed to type today!!!

1:02:58 - Sofia Segurola Calderon
chrome books great when INTERNET works only

1:03:10 - Peggy George
equity is such an important issue! I would much rather see the money go into digital resources that can be much more current!

1:03:13 - @bcdtech Maureen
That addresses equity at school, but many of us out here in the sticks do not have good internet access

1:03:33 - Peggy George
fabulous presentation Madison teachers!!!!!

1:03:33 - Sofia Segurola Calderon

1:03:45 - Alan Guttman
Thanks Peggy and all for patience.

1:03:58 - Julie Leckman
But with Plickers the only connection you need is on the teachers phone. ;-)

1:04:03 - @bcdtech Maureen
Great presentation! Love to hear from real teachers using these tools

1:04:34 - @bcdtech Maureen
:) This teacher doesn't have a phone...

1:04:37 - Danny
Great Presentation! I hadn't "participated" in a webinar for awhile, but enjoyed this one.

1:05:28 - Sofia Segurola Calderon
recording students in action

1:05:34 - tam
flipped learning!

1:05:36 - Alan Guttman
This was a great session - will share with colleagues to check out recording

1:05:39 - Karoline Towner #2
multimodal learning

1:05:55 - Julie Leckman
No phone issue. - You might be able to write a graph for a tablet and then pick up a data only plan for as low as 5-10 a month.

1:06:13 - Sofia Segurola Calderon
quick way of sharing with parents what is happening in the classroom in real time

1:06:26 - Julie Leckman
That was supppose to be a grant. Noto graph - sorry.

1:06:40 - Patti Ruffing
i vote for video tools

1:06:46 - @bcdtech Maureen
Don't do tools for differentiating... I'll be in my last grad class for assitive tech. Maybe I can get some of the folks in my class to do a share for you at some point.. still deep in the trenches at the moment

1:06:54 - Alison Oswald-Keene
Grant writing and places to look

1:06:56 - Patti Ruffing
video tools would be helpful for differentiating and also flippiing

1:07:02 - Sofia Segurola Calderon
place where students can share their ideas on how they want to change the world

1:07:11 - Jessie McKinley
gamification and digital badges... anyone doing this?

1:08:27 - Alan Guttman

@Julie.. no phone by choice. We had no access out here. I have 2 ipads, 2 chromebooks, a new jide android computer, 3 kindles... etc... I can use the tools in school- but where I live the access- actual internet- is wonky. I have kids who have no access. I have some who only have dial up.
