03:48 - Wes Fryer @wfryer
Yes I'm Shelly's husband. :-)

04:11 - aunttammie
Power Couple! :)

05:27 - Peggy George
I remember wondering the same thing when I first heard of web 2.0!

05:59 - Peggy George
I have come to know it as the "read-write web" which requires interacting--not just passive consumption as Web 1.0 :-)

06:14 - Katharine Lauritsen 3
Same here!! Web 2.0 sounded so strange when i first heard it

06:27 - @plnaugle (Paula)

06:37 - Peggy George
Our Livebinder with all of Shelly's resources in case you missed it.

06:52 - Peggy George
Thanks Paula!! :-) I love my team!!!

07:18 - Peggy George (Room 108 Maker Studio)

07:48 - Peggy George Follow Shelly on Twitter!

07:54 - @plnaugle (Paula)
Postive Tomorrows must be a wonderful place to work and learn.

07:59 - Kim T. AZ 1
Homeless, but not "schoolless" :)

08:06 - Peggy George (Class website)

08:16 - Peggy George
great point Kim!!! :-)

08:39 - Peggy George

08:40 - @plnaugle (Paula)
If the children are no longer homeless do they have to enroll elsewhere?

09:00 - Peggy George
great question Paula!!

09:01 - Kim T. AZ 1
That is always the case, it isn't the tool, but how you use it, right?

09:08 - Peggy George

09:10 - Wes Fryer @wfryer
@Plnaugle it really is great their school has so many resources to help parents and families, not just students. Case managers, counselors, food support, etc.

09:32 - Peggy George

09:40 - Claire Dickinson
I am so interested in the iPad apps that you use every week!

09:42 - Kim T. AZ 1
@wfryer Serving the "whole student"....the way it should be. :)

09:54 - Peggy George
being able to connect with other educators around the world has totally changed my life!!

09:58 - @plnaugle (Paula)
Welcome Laura.

10:35 - @plnaugle (Paula)
My students and I are loving using Seesaw.

10:56 - Peggy George

11:06 - Peggy George
you will need to click on play

11:13 - Katharine Lauritsen 3
This is the second time I have heard about Seesaw.I think it's time I try it

11:22 - Rawya Shatila
me too

11:31 - Angie W #2
I adore Seesaw! So user-friendly and valuable!

11:39 - Peggy George
this is so cute!!! these kids know what's important!!

12:01 - Kristi Christensen
I've never heard of it. This is a first.

12:02 - aunttammie
That kid could voice over commercials! Great voice!

12:11 - Peggy George
If any of you have websites, class blogs, videos you would like to share with us please post the links in the chat and I'll add them to the Livebinder after the show.

12:21 - Kristi Christensen
It didn't play for me. :(

12:34 - Lorie Moffat
It's in the Livebinder.

12:37 - @plnaugle (Paula)
Using The Important Book as a writing frame for students is an activity I do also.

12:37 - Rawya Shatila

12:39 - Eileen
Grit - Angela Duckworth would be proud of you

12:43 - Kim T. AZ 1
I downloaded it and am able to see it

12:59 - Wes Fryer @wfryer
Yes Katharine! SeeSaw is really a transformative app in many ways, does a great job empowering students to share their ideas

13:14 - Peggy George
sometimes videos are not all that user-friendly in Blackboard Collaborate but you can view all of them in the Livebinder later. :-)

13:18 - @plnaugle (Paula)
The Important Book from Amazon -

13:27 - Katharine Lauritsen 3
Thanks @wfryer. I like anything where I can empower my students

13:39 - Peggy George
That is so exciting that Shelly got to teach in Germany!! What an awesome experience!

13:55 - Kristi Christensen
I am a proud graduate of the DoDDs school system! Love Germany!

14:05 - Wes Fryer @wfryer
awesome Kristi!

14:09 - Claire Dickinson
Kristi- I would love to talk to you more about that in class!! :)

14:20 - Peggy George
Fantastic Kristi!!!! You should be a Featured Teacher :-)

14:26 - Wes Fryer @wfryer
Kristi where did you live in Germany and go to school in DoDDs?

14:38 - Kristi Christensen
Bitburg, GE

14:45 - @plnaugle (Paula)
My Google Doc for The Important Book lesson -

14:58 - Claire Dickinson
I have also taught at a Title 1 school as a reading and math tutor before I began my job as a math teacher. It was an eye-opening experience.

15:01 - Wes Fryer @wfryer
Shelly lived in Bad Nauheim, Germany

15:06 - @plnaugle (Paula)
I think I've heard of your husband @WesFryer. :)

15:16 - Peggy George
I used project based learning in my first special education classroom way before it was even called that! :-) My students loved the hands-on learning.
That was back in the late 1960's :-)

15:31 - Kristi Christensen
I ran a cross country meet there. Small school.

16:24 - Peggy George
this background is so interesting and helpful in thinking about how Shelly's teaching has grown from this!

16:48 - Katharine Lauritsen 3
Shelly, it is wonderful how that passion is in you and came back out like that!

16:50 - Wes Fryer @wfryer
Shelly wasn't sure how much of this she should share, but I encouraged her to give everyone more backstory. It's important

17:01 - Peggy George
have any of you taught in mixed-grade level classrooms (combined grades in one classroom)?

17:16 - @plnaugle (Paula)
Welcome Gisela.

17:17 - Aisha #2
Not me

17:23 - Peggy George
I agree completely Wes! Really valuable!

17:30 - Kim T. AZ 1
4/5 combo for one year

17:31 - Peggy George
Hi Gisela! Welcome!

17:39 - Gisela Loya
Thanks. Peggy.

17:40 - Bonita
I also taught in DoDDs Hanau

17:48 - Kristi Christensen
I'm a secondary Health/P.E. teacher, so every day.

17:56 - Peggy George
always love seeing classroom schedules for different teachers!

18:01 - Wes Fryer @wfryer
@Kristi very cool. Shelly really loved that area and wants to take our family there sometime. She loved running in the woods where she lived. Our son was an exchange student in Berlin for a summer 2 years ago.

18:07 - Claire Dickinson
Yes- I teach 6th and 7th graders within the same classroom.

18:16 - Peggy George
That is fantastic Bonita!!

18:48 - Peggy George
I have taught in quite a few multi-grade classrooms and loved them! One combined 3 grades (2,3,4)

19:04 - Peggy George (Class website)

19:23 - Peggy George
Simple and yet so powerful! Fantastic resources on her class site!

19:46 - Peggy George (Class Flickr photos)

19:57 - Bonita
I'll definitely check it out!

20:03 - Peggy George (Class radio show)

20:06 - Katharine Lauritsen 3
Love the home base idea!

20:18 - Kim T. AZ 1
What wonderful skills (real life) your students are learning!

20:19 - Peggy George (Class YouTube channel)

20:25 - Eileen
Wonderful website!

20:37 - Wes Fryer @wfryer
It is really helpful to have a "home base" website to share links with students. I heard Apple rep Maria Henderson share that term "home base website" several years ago in White Oak, Texas.

20:39 - Peggy George
It's so inspiring to see all of the creative things her kids are doing via the youtube channel!

20:40 - @plnaugle (Paula)
Great that being homeless doesn't mean the students can't be connected learners.

20:49 - Kristi Christensen
I love the idea of a youtube channel! The kids can "re-live" the fun later. :)

20:59 - Peggy George
exactly Kristi!!!

21:05 - Gisela Loya
WOW its a really fantastic work. Congrats.

21:21 - Katharine Lauritsen 3
Seems like everything develops ownership with the students.

21:22 - Kevin Higgins
actually integrating her site into her everyday teaching is amazing rather than just using it as an announcement platform

21:23 - Wes Fryer @wfryer
@Kristi yes! Shelly's students love to re-watch their projects and their classmates' videos. Some have shown their parents on their smartphones too :-)

21:35 - Peggy George
projects can totally change the way students get engaged in their own learning!

21:44 - Kim T. AZ 1
Love paper slides!

21:51 - Claire Dickinson
I absolutely love the personalized videos. I'm sure the kiddos love to see themselves as well. :)

22:01 - @plnaugle (Paula)
@wfryer I love attending the TCEA Area 7 conference in White Oak, TX hosted by Scott Floyd. I've presented there several times.

22:21 - Wes Fryer @wfryer
Remember to click PLAY after Peggy starts the "webshow" to play the video. You can also scan the QR code or type in the shortened link

22:21 - Peggy George
I'll post the link if you can't see the video and it's also in the Livebinder.

22:51 - Peggy George
once you see it click on play

23:01 - Peggy George
if it doesn't start playing automatically

23:15 - Wes Fryer @wfryer
this time it played automatically for me

23:21 - Peggy George
paper slide videos are so simple and wonderful!

23:28 - Peggy George
me too Wes!

23:37 - Kim T. AZ 1
Never thought of adding a frame when using paper slides.

23:52 - Kristi Christensen
Sorry guys. Lost my connection there for a minute. Back now.

23:53 - Wes Fryer @wfryer
@Kim the frame helps the kids keep the pages in the camera screen!

23:56 - Peggy George
love the music!!! gives me goosebumps!

24:07 - Peggy George
whew Kristi!! glad you're back!

24:22 - Peggy George
very clever technique!!!

24:49 - Peggy George
awww!!!! I love hearing the kids sing!!!!

24:53 - Wes Fryer @wfryer
some of Shelly's students last year really came alive when they were on camera!

25:11 - Wes Fryer @wfryer
That student is rapping!

25:17 - Peggy George
that would be a great song for us to listen to at the start of every day and sing along!!!

25:20 - Claire Dickinson
They look so happy!

25:29 - Angie W #3
Sorry...Blackboard crashed on me! But I'm back and loving the paper slides!

25:34 - Claire Dickinson
They clearly love being in the classroom.

25:34 - Wes Fryer @wfryer
yes, Shelly's classroom and school IS a very happy place

25:57 - Katharine Lauritsen 3
Oh my goodness. That feels like a happy group and seems like a close community

26:03 - Peggy George
movies require a little extra bandwidth! really glad you are getting right back in!

26:19 - Gisela Loya
Yes, music anchor hearts in learning process

26:25 - Peggy George
I agree Katharine! You can just feel their happiness!

26:35 - Peggy George
love that point Gisela!

26:46 - @plnaugle (Paula)
Love seeing their smiles, brought tears to my eyes.

27:10 - Kristi Christensen
@Kevin I agree. I observed in an alternative school a couple of years ago that had a class webpage where assignments were found and posted for grading. It was hosted by the district. They had a name for it, but I can't remember...

27:14 - Peggy George
Do any of you use classroom meetings?

27:27 - @plnaugle (Paula)
Putting JOY back in the classroom is important.

27:56 - Peggy George
that must be so thrilling for them to get a home!!!

28:06 - @plnaugle (Paula)
Yes, morning meetings are a great way to build a feeling of being part of a family.

28:15 - Peggy George
hahaha!!! love that picture :-)

28:15 - Kristi Christensen
@Peggy, No, but as a Health teacher trying to teach positive communication skills I think it could be a useful exercise.

28:51 - Peggy George
I think so too Kristi! any age group benefits from having a regular time to just talk, listen and problem solve :-)

29:25 - Wes Fryer @wfryer
some sample school media release and publishing forms from different schools are on

29:28 - Peggy George
never heard the term "red shirt" used in that way but that is a wonderful way to share the kids without using their pictures!

29:31 - Katharine Lauritsen 3
Thanks for sharing that idea "red shirt" students. There are many parents who don't allow students to have their pictures taken

29:35 - Bonita
This is awesome !!!

29:50 - Peggy George
Thanks for that link Wes! I'll add it to the Livebinder!

30:05 - Kevin Higgins
awesome problem solving to include all the students

30:37 - Annette Whitby
The iPad attachment for the camera stand looks neat. Haven't seen that before. Is it on Amazon?

30:48 - Peggy George
how brave! ditch the desks :-) Erin Klein is a fantastic person to follow to learn all about creating these kinds of learning spaces!

31:21 - Peggy George

31:30 - Wes Fryer @wfryer
At the start of the 2015-16 school year, Shelly "ditched her desks" and redesigned her classroom. This is a podcast reflection she recorded in Aug 2015:

32:02 - @bcdtechMaureen
@Annettei wondered the same thing

32:16 - Peggy George
That iPad holder is amazing! My granddaughter used it at her bridal shower. She just left it setup and anyone could video themselves or take a selfie. So much fun! Very cheap!

32:28 - @plnaugle (Paula)
Classroom design articles from Erin Klein's blog -

32:34 - @bcdtechMaureen
Sorry... Wondered the same thing

32:35 - Wes Fryer @wfryer
Peggy was that the iPow iPad holder?

32:48 - Peggy George
yes Wes!

32:58 - Wes Fryer @wfryer
Can't beat $9 price :-)

33:27 - Peggy George

36:38 - Rawya Shatila
It looks interesting!

36:58 - Peggy George
those stories/articles really look engaging for kids!!

37:23 - Susie @shighley
Has she covered how long her students are with her on average? Does she have many come and go during the year? I would think there would be many who would not want to leave her classroom

37:44 - Peggy George
not exactly Susie! What a great question!

38:09 - @plnaugle (Paula)
News O Matic EDU | Product Reviews on EdSurge

38:13 - Wes Fryer @wfryer
Yes Shelly has a lot of mobility in her room during the year, but sometimes students stay for more than 1 year. Their school is a transition space, however, to help families get stable and help students return to their 'regular' public school

38:30 - Wes Fryer @wfryer
Shelly started with 17 students this year, and is down to 11 right now I think. Those numbers fluctuate a lot.

38:34 - Peggy George
can you imagine how excited the students must have been to have the Governor visit her classroom???!!!!

38:48 - Rawya Shatila

39:02 - Peggy George
brilliant idea!!!

39:19 - Katharine Lauritsen 3

42:19 - Wes Fryer @wfryer
Thanks for putting these videos into SafeShare, Peggy! That's such a great tool. I shared it with one of our high school teachers yesterday.

42:35 - Kristi Christensen
I will have to check out those video apps. Even secondary students would have fun with the green screen.

42:45 - Peggy George
You're welcome! Really helps them to load faster :-) less bandwidth!

43:16 - Claire Dickinson
I agree, Kristi. Kids of all ages could benefit.

43:17 - Wes Fryer @wfryer
@Kristi yes definitely! I've collected different green screen video resources for teachers and students on

43:26 - Kevin Higgins
@kristi even we can have fun w/ these apps

43:29 - Peggy George
so touching to know that all of these kids have dreams and that they are encouraged to believe in their dreams!

43:47 - Wes Fryer @wfryer
Green Screen videos really can encourage people to get creative & have fun!

44:04 - Peggy George
so many of them want peace in the world!! :-)

44:05 - Wes Fryer @wfryer
And they also can be used to share powerful messages, like this example...

44:35 - Wes Fryer @wfryer
The things the kids are saying here about rejecting racism and prejudice is so important and timely now.

44:36 - Peggy George
wow! dream our world would not be racist and love their lives!

44:39 - Rawya Shatila
very touching

45:28 - Peggy George
